Beginning Drawing & Introduction
to Art
This introductory class teaches the foundations needed
to express your creativity through drawing and painting.
Learn to see like an artist, explore media, create
dynamic compositions, draw in perspective, and use
light and shadow on form. We start with charcoal
drawing and learn the basics. We end with an
introduction to color theory and painting, learning the
difference between oil, acrylic and watercolor. After this
class you will be set for your next art adventure!

Beginning Painting
Have you always wanted to learn to paint? This is the
class for you! We’ll travel at a beginner’s pace, starting
with exploring materials and methods. We’ll then work
on value, color-mixing and drawing skills. Ann covers
copying artworks, working from photographs, and
painting from observation. Oil and acrylic paints are
both welcome. Students will be expected to follow the
course curriculum. For independent work and study,

Watercolor
Using images from still life and landscape, students will
learn the basics of watercolor painting. We will cover
wet-in-wet, drybrush, washes, and glazes. Most importantly,
we will become familiar with the behavior of water,
our complex partner in the painting process. Explore
a variety of papers, pigments, and brushes. Learn about
composition, design, and color theory.

Painting: Beginning & Beyond
This class is a one-room schoolhouse! Beginning and
intermediate students follow a guided study curriculum;
independent students bring their own self-determined
projects. Each week’s half-hour of lecture,
demonstration and class-long practice exercises help
beginners, but useful for students of all levels. Many
students prefer the independent study route for support
in pursuing their own artistic practice. Acrylic,
watercolor, oil, and pastel are welcome. This class has a
culture of studious effort and quiet concentration.

Acrylic Painting
Exciting breakthroughs with acrylic paint allow it to be
handled more like traditional oil paint: slower drying
time, buttery consistency, and smooth mix-ability. Learn
how to handle and control this marvelous medium with
easy to follow step-by-step methods. Class will cover
staging your picture, color theory, design, materials,
techniques, and tricks.
Instructor will go over materials needed for the quarter
at the first class. Please bring any acrylic painting materials
you already have.
