pollution. Together with community
groups nationwide, they have
removed 1.5 million pieces of
rubbish from the sea.
Aveda lives and breathes its
mission; the company headquarters
are located on a 58 acre national
wildlife-certified campus in
Minnesota, USA, complete with
honeybee colonies, an employeecurated
vegetable garden, electric
vehicle charging stations and miles
of running trails for the staff.
Aveda was the first beauty
company to receive a Cradle to
Cradle charter for its commitment
to sustainable products, packaging
and production. In 2013, Aveda
was honoured with the first
Legacy Leaders Award for Cradle
to Cradle for its pioneering role
in environmental leadership.
And in 2017 Aveda received the
Sustainability Leadership Award
during the Sustainable Beauty
Awards by Ecovia Intelligence.
L’Oreal Paris is another
powerhouse leading the charge.
Since 2005, the L’Oreal Group has
reduced the CO 2
emissions of its
plants and distribution centres
by 91%, and at the end of 2022
L’Oréal had 110 carbon-neutral sites
(meaning they use 100% renewable
energy), including 22 factories.
L’Oreal Paris has started a
programme called L’Oreal for
the Future, with the aim of
transforming its activities to respect
the planet’s limits. The beauty
giant says it is committed to raising
the bar, implementing a new
internal transformation programme
that doesn’t just focus on the
company’s direct impact but also
its indirect, extended impact – for
example, the activity of its suppliers
and the use of L’Oreal Paris products
by consumers.
The company has allocated 100
million euros to the regeneration of
eco-systems and the development
of the circular economy and
50 million euros to a charitable
endowment fund to support highly
vulnerable women.
