The aftermarket
needs an update!
“Good data now a defining factor in determining
business success,” says Elcome
Automotive data and cataloguing specialist, Elcome, is calling
on the aftermarket to update its data or risk losing business
to the main dealer networks.
The company, home to the ONCE online cataloguing platform
that ensures accurate cataloguing and application data, is
responding to an automotive survey carried out by garage
management system Garage Hive, which found that parts data
and the delivery of the right part, first time was increasingly
important for garages. As a consequence, the survey identified
that more garages were turning to main dealers for supply of the
correct parts.
In further analysis carried out by Elcome on aftermarket
work-shop look-up systems, the company found more than 100
aftermarket brands had not updated their parts data for over a
year.
TMD Friction’s premium aftermarket braking
brand Textar celebrated its 110th anniversary this
July, marking an impressive milestone of more
than a century’s supply of high-end braking
products.
Oliver Haywood, Head of Sales & Marketing at Elcome
Good product data is proving to be the bedrock of modern
automotive businesses, who benefit from increased efficiency,
customer satisfaction, faster new to range introductions and
increased revenue overall.
Since 1999, Elcome has made it easier for aftermarket
businesses to provide accurate and consistent data to multiple
market channels including data standards TecDoc, MAM, and ACES
and online channels such as eBay and Amazon.
With a range of features available, users can merge vehicle data
with parts information, output for cataloguing and view numerous
market trends, providing total control and saving time.
Oliver Haywood, Head of Sales & Marketing at Elcome, says: “In
a rapidly evolving sector, having accurate up to date information
on your products and services is key to good customer service
and has an impact throughout the entire supply chain, from
manufacturer to garage.
“Today, business investment equates to a competitive
advantage and good product data management also means
business are best placed to make effective decisions and identify
trends within their organisation.”
Founded in 1913, Textar has been a staple for premium
braking quality, optimum safety and stopping performance.
Having established itself in continental Europe following
the start of production in 1934, the brand became the first
German braking brand to supply as original equipment, and in
the 1950s worked with Mercedes-Benz to develop brakes for
racing in Formula One.
Across its 110-year legacy, Textar has solidified a strong
heritage in braking, with original equipment applications of its
friction material ranging from the first passenger cars to modern
supercars such as the Bugatti Veyron.
Scott Irwin MIMI, head of technical training at TMD Friction
IAM, said: “Reaching the milestone of 110 years is a real
accomplishment but looking back at the quality of the product
and longevity of the brand it’s easy to see how Textar has lasted
the course.
“Textar continues to deliver high performance, optimum
safety and driver confidence, and backs this up by engaging
with the aftermarket to teach best practice for fitment. We’re
grateful to all our customers who have worked with us on
training and developing a quality portfolio. Textar is very proud of
its history and looks forward to the next 110 years!”
Textar’s rich history has seen success both on the road, and
on the track. Dating back to 1955, British racing driver Stirling
Moss won his first British Formula One Grand Prix in a Mercedes-
Benz W196 (Silver Arrow) fitted with Textar brake linings. Almost
70 years later, Textar brake equipment can be found on racing
trucks, in the hands of Newell and Wright Motorsport.
Customers can be assured of high-end braking quality with
Textar products, with each new product development going
through extensive testing and quality assurance over a threeyear
development cycle before being released.
Optimum safety and a long service life are the qualities
reflected in all Textar products. Knowledge gained from its
original equipment development is cascaded to its aftermarket
product lines, so customers know they’re getting the very best.
Technicians and workshops can find out more about the latest
TMD Friction products online via the Textar Brakebook online
catalogue (https://textar.com/en/brakebook/). Customers
can also use the Textar Brakebook app to view Textar’s product
range on-the-go.
