The next focus for the association is<br />
the 2024-34 Long Term Plan which the<br />
district council is currently in the early<br />
stages of drafting.<br />
Said Alexander: “It’s important to look<br />
forward to what projects the residents<br />
association can promote which will<br />
improve Rolleston and the greater<br />
<strong>Selwyn</strong>.<br />
“One I had in mind is a project that<br />
was parked a few years ago. That was<br />
promoting the installation of a network<br />
of park benches through the township<br />
so as you walk, particularly on the main<br />
routes, you can find somewhere to stop<br />
and sit.”<br />
He said the park benches would<br />
cost about $1500 each and it would be<br />
something the district council could look<br />
into installing district-wide.<br />
“It’s a simple low-cost project that could<br />
actually improve the streetscapes.”<br />
Alexander said the Long Term Plan<br />
presents a challenge for people to think<br />
about the future of what they want the<br />
district to look like in 10 years.<br />
Another project Alexander is looking<br />
to chase is advocating for a better<br />
public transport network. He said the<br />
current network is not keeping up with<br />
the growth.<br />
“We have a bus network that doesn’t<br />
traverse most of the township.<br />
“It’s possible Rolleston needs a shuttle<br />
bus service within its township,” he said,<br />
adding the bus network should be there<br />
as the new subdivisions are being built,<br />
rather than waiting for the area to be<br />
established.<br />
A challenge going forward for the<br />
association is funding, with no current<br />
income streams at the moment.<br />
“That may be something we are going<br />
to have to look at,” said Alexander,<br />
adding that he does have some ideas, but<br />
nothing that is ready for announcement.<br />
