On December 8the school will close for the day so the teachers and pupils can travel to Christchurch to see the ballet, Cinderella, as part of the school’s Education Outside the Classroom programme. The Christmas Gala Community Performance will include nearly 300 students from the Southern Ballet Theatre performing at the historic Isaac Theatre Royal. The onehour show is being billed as an entertaining, colourful production of ballet, contemporary and jazz dance, suitable for children of all ages, with dramatic scene changes guaranteed to hold the audience’s attention. Pegasus Bay School’s business manager, Micky Brosnan, says they decided to use funds raised at this year’s art show, which was held last weekend, for their Education Outside the Classroom programme because ‘‘we really want to continue to provide these memorymaking learning experiences for all of our children.’’ The Pegasus Bay Art Show is apopular event on the North Canterbury arts calendar and abig fundraiser for the school. The organisers had hoped to make it an annual event, but have decided to keep it as abiennial show for now because of the cost of living crisis. The main exhibition, which was held in the school gym, showcased about 420 pieces of art including 10 exhibits by guest artist Joel Hart of Waikuku Beach. A‘‘Kids Art’’ exhibition was also held alongside the main event and included a spectacular, large scale Space Explosion In Our Galaxy artwork. The high quality of the children’s work prompted Julianna Gale, an art lover from Rangiora, to say it was the ‘‘highlight of the whole show’’.
