Visionary by name and nature
Prebbleton’s community is flocking to the innovative,
welcoming experience offered by recently opened
optometry practice, The Visionary. “I heard about the coffee”
is a frequent opening line!
Standard optometry appointments can feel clinical and
structured – get the test, select your frames, pay up and go.
Instead, The Visionary creates an enjoyable, relaxed experience,
where you can linger with friends and family, sit down at tables
to enjoy complementary, quality coffee, and try on frames at
your own pace. The frames and tabled area is set apart from
the testing area, so people feel they can take their time and
relax.
Kate, one of the friendly receptionists, says “Choosing glasses
is such an important, and personal, decision. We don’t want
to rush people. We can make helpful suggestions as people
try things on, or we’re equally happy to leave people to it until
they ask – we try to gauge how each person feels comfortable.”
People may also take a selection of frames home for a couple
of days. This is a great opportunity to show frames to family
and friends before making a decision on their new eyewear.
And there’s an excellent range of frames to choose from, priced
from affordable to higher end. The staff have really taken time
to ensure that there is something for everyone. There’s a great
variety of kids’ and tweens’ frames, as well as funky brands
exclusive to The Visionary.
Rochelle van Eysden set up The Visionary to bring her vision of
a friendly, relaxed practice to fruition. Having provided optical
care across Canterbury since 1998, she could see the urgency
of need in Selwyn, with the fast expanding population.
Fellow optometrist Suney Cheung specialises in children’s
vision, low vision and speciality contact lenses. Kate and
Carolyn round out the team, always available for assistance and
advice.
The model is obviously working. The Visionary has hit the
ground running since its opening in May.
