Message from
the President
In a great achievement, the formula that leads to it is as important, or more important, than
the result. A victory is the result of a strategy based on multiple factors, including planning,
persistence and talent. However, the greatest achievements are not those achieved at any price,
because there is no glory when you act dishonestly or without measuring the consequences. This
applies to human relationships and the environment in which we live. If we want our actions to
serve as inspiration, we have to show that it is possible to win or make dreams come true based
on acceptable and sustainable conduct. For this reason, indeed, we created the ESG area of the
cooperative. The assistance is aligned with the strategic orientation and our purpose. This is how
C.Vale is generating prosperity: with ethics in its relationships and with the rational use of
natural resources.
Communities
The economic and social effects of C.Vale’s activities are significant. In 2022, the
cooperative collected R$ 524 million in taxes for states and municipalities. In the case
of poultry, ICMS is divided according to the percentage of chicken production in each
municipality involved in the integration system. The cooperative also assists entities
that provide social assistance because it understands that economic advances must
go hand in hand with improving people’s living conditions, especially those with
greater vulnerability.
Sustainability is a concept that must guide the actions of all companies. The
C.Vale Environmental program is an action of the cooperative that encompasses
members and employees in a set of initiatives to ensure the balance between
economic, social and environmental actions. In the last decade, tens of millions
have been invested in the cooperative’s environmental area.
The need for the rational use of natural resources led C.Vale to provide seedlings and
technical assistance for members to foster the recovery of riparian forests and the
conservation of springs. At the same time, an area of 1,500 hectares of reforestation
supplies firewood to supply the industries’ boilers and dryers in the cooperative’s
grain reception units. Chicken producers also use firewood from reforestation to
heat the aviaries.
The Rational Water Use Program (PURA – from the Portuguese, Programa de Utilização Racional
chicken and fish slaughterhouses, thermoprocessing industries and cassava processing. It
also involves the treatment of effluents to ensure the return of water to nature in accordance
with the standards required by environmental legislation. Members are encouraged to recover
and conserve springs to guarantee good quality water for future generations. In Paraná, the
To avoid waste and control waste generation, C.Vale uses the 3R’s program (Reduce, Reuse
and Recycle). A recycling center in the chicken slaughterhouse allows the separation of
plastic and cardboard of the entire agro-industrial complex. With these precautions, less
than 1.4% of discarded raw materials are sent to landfills or specialized treatment. The
cooperative also maintains a program for the collection and proper disposal of animal
health product residues. The initiative involves chicken, fish and swine producers.
Air Quality
To ensure air quality and people’s health, C.Vale monitors the emission of atmospheric
gases. The cooperative takes advantage of the methane gas (CH4) generated by the
effluents from the starch modifiers factories and Piglet Production Unit to generate
clean energy and minimize the greenhouse effect. In the case of the two cassava
processing industries, in Assis Chateaubriand and Terra Roxa, both in Paraná (PR), the
measure reduces the costs of industries with firewood by approximately 75%, that is,
it avoids the consumption of more than 50,000 trees /year.
