PRESIDENT'S WORDS
A CHALLENGING YEAR
Alfredo Lang
CEO of C.Vale
An extraordinarily challenging period. The year 2023 managed to overcome the level of difficulties
imposed on agribusiness in the twelve months that preceded it. After strongly affecting summer crops in
central-southern Brazil in 2022, climate once again punished rural producers and companies in the sector.
First it was the drought that damaged soy crops in Rio Grande do Sul, then it was the excess rain that
affected wheat in Rio Grande do Sul in 2023. To worsen the problems, grain prices fell, pushing profitability
to critical levels.
In the meat segment, the results also left something to be desired. Even with the reduction in costs
due to the decline in the prices of soy and corn, which serve as the basis for feed, the sharp decline in
international chicken meat prices and weak consumption in the domestic market flattened profit margins.
For C.Vale, in particular, 2023 was a year of contrasts. We faced the effects of the accident at the Palotina
grain unit that left 10 dead and another 10 injured. A tragedy in which we seek to alleviate the suffering of
family members with full support for medical, psychological and financial care.
That same year, we achieved one of the greatest achievements in C.Vale's history. We inaugurated the
soy crusher, an enterprise that fulfilled a dream of the cooperative's first members and marked C.Vale's
60th anniversary.
Even facing such adverse conditions, we managed to close 2023 with surplus. Revenue grew 7.62%,
reaching R$24.42 billion. We expected better performance, but agribusiness deals with components over
which we have no control, the climate being the most important of them.
For 2024, with grain-input exchange relations at a more balanced level, consumption a little warmer
and interest rates falling, producers and agribusiness companies should face a more promising scenario.
Difficult periods bring lessons, the main one being that we need to seek efficiency and competitiveness.
Whoever knows better how to adjust to difficulties will be more prepared to take advantage of periods of
prosperity.

SUSTAINABILITY
Producing competitively, rationally using natural resources and generating economic and
social benefits is the great challenge of agribusiness. C.Vale is aware that it is possible to take
advantage of climate and soil conditions in an environmentally rational way. In order to foster the
appropriate management of natural resources, the cooperative maintains programs to encourage
the good use of water, soil and air. Attentive to innovations and always seeking to be in tune
with transformations, in accordance with ESG (Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance)
practices, the cooperative brings new technologies to producers and trains members, employees
and family members. These are actions that, over the last few years, have come to be demanded
by citizen-consumers who are aware that it is the obligation of each one of us to get involved in
building a more prosperous world.
CELEBRATIONS
Inauguration of C.Vale's soy crusher
Sixty years after its creation, C.Vale fulfilled a dream
of its first members. The cooperative inaugurated, on
November 7th, the day of its anniversary, a soy crusher
with a processing capacity of 60 thousand bags/day. The
project occupies 12 hectares, in the cooperative's agroindustrial
complex, and received more than R$1 billion
in investments between 2021 and 2023. It is the third
largest crusher in Brazil in industrial plants with just one
production line and the first in technological level. The
works took two years to be completed and involved 1,100
employees from 35 companies.
The inauguration ceremony brought together
six thousand guests, including the governor of
Paraná, Ratinho Junior, a large number of politicians,
representatives of entities, financial institutions, suppliers
and customers from Brazil and abroad, as well as
REPORT | 2023
APPRECIATION
The diversification of activities rarely has been as important as in these last three years in which the
climate has had a strong impact on grain production. Alternative sources of income bring greater security
to rural producers when crop failures occur or when low prices compromise the profitability of grains. For
this reason, C.Vale operates in several segments: it generates more income for its members, creates jobs
and ensures greater stability for the cooperative's finances.
We combine diversification, innovations and the search for excellence with attitudes that make a
difference. We have created a culture of permanent search for efficiency and competitiveness. It is an
environment to which members, employees, leaders, board members, tax advisors and executive directors
contributed. We also want to express our gratitude to the Organization of Cooperatives of Paraná (Ocepar),
customers, suppliers, professional associations, the press, financial institutions, parliamentarians linked to
agribusiness and our families.
None of this would be possible if the Creator had not given us the gift of life and the willingness to
generate prosperity. We thank God and ask that He renew His blessings upon us for new achievements.
