NLGI-Klasse:<br />

Die NLGI-Klasse (NLGI = National Lubricating<br />

Grease Institute) ist eine Klassifizierung, die den<br />

Konsistenzgrad von Schmierfetten beschreibt,<br />

wobei höhere Zahlen auf eine dickere Konsistenz<br />

hinweisen und niedrigere Zahlen auf eine<br />

dünnere Konsistenz. Zum Beispiel steht die NL-<br />

GI-Klasse 2 für ein mittelkonsistentes Schmierfett.<br />

Es gibt insgesamt neun NLGI-Klassen, die von<br />

000 (Fliessfett) bis 6 (wachsartige Konsistenz)<br />

reichen.<br />

Verdicker (Seife):<br />

Der Verdicker in einem Schmierfett ist eine<br />

Substanz, die dazu dient, das flüssige Grundöl in<br />

eine halbfeste oder feste Konsistenz zu verwandeln.<br />

Er bindet das Grundöl und bildet ein<br />

schwammartiges Gerüst, das die Struktur und<br />

Stabilität des Schmierfetts gewährleistet.<br />

Lithiumverdicker bieten eine gute mechanische<br />

Stabilität, Scherfestigkeit und Temperaturbeständigkeit.<br />

Kalziumverdicker bieten eine sehr<br />

gute Wasserbeständigkeit und eignen sich als<br />

Allzweckfett.<br />

Lithiumkomplexverdicker sind eine spezielle Art<br />

von Verdickern, welche sich durch ihre hohe mechanische<br />

Stabilität und Oxidationsstabilität<br />

auszeichnen. Darüber hinaus finden auch andere<br />

Verdickertypen wie Natrium, Bentonit, Aluminiumkomplex,<br />

Polyharnstoff, und spezielle<br />

Kombinationen davon, in bestimmten Anwendungen<br />

Verwendung.<br />

Grundölviskosität:<br />

Die Grundölviskosität bezieht sich auf die Fliessfähigkeit<br />

oder Zähflüssigkeit des Grundöls. Das<br />

Grundöl wird in der Schwammstruktur des Verdickers<br />

aufgenommen und festgehalten.<br />

Bei niedrigen Temperaturen ist eine niedrige<br />

Grundölviskosität von Vorteil, da das Öl dünnflüssiger<br />

bleibt und eine gute Schmierung auch<br />

bei Kälte gewährleistet. Bei hohen Temperaturen<br />

ist hingegen eine höhere Grundölviskosität<br />

erforderlich, um einen ausreichenden Schmierfilm<br />

und eine gute Lasttragefähigkeit zu gewährleisten.<br />

Die Viskosität wird in Centistokes (cSt) oder<br />

mm 2 /s angegeben.<br />

Temperatur-Einsatzbereich in °C:<br />

Gibt an, in welchem Temperaturbereich das Fett<br />

effektiv und stabil funktionieren kann, ohne<br />

dass seine Schmiereigenschaften signifikant beeinträchtigt<br />

werden. Ist die Temperatur zu niedrig,<br />

kann das Fett nicht mehr fliessen und ist<br />

somit nicht mehr in der Lage, die zu schmierenden<br />

Oberflächen zu trennen. Ist sie zu hoch,<br />

zersetzt sich das Fett oder verliert seine strukturelle<br />

Integrität, was zu einem Verlust der<br />

Schmierfähigkeit und einem Versagen der<br />

Schmierung führen kann.<br />

VKA-Schweisskraft:<br />

VKA steht für «Vierkugelapparat» und ist eine<br />

Methode zur Bestimmung der Schweissbeständigkeit<br />

aufeinandergepresst und mit<br />

einer definierten Geschwindigkeit gedreht.<br />

Eine höhere VKA-Schweisskraft bedeutet, dass<br />

das Schmierfett eine bessere Schweissbeständigkeit<br />

aufweist und somit in Anwendungen eingesetzt<br />

werden kann, bei denen hohe Belastungen<br />

und extreme Reibungsbedingungen auftreten.<br />

LES PRINCIPALES CARACTÉRISTIQUES D’UNE GRAISSE<br />

Classe NLGI :<br />

la classe NLGI (National Lubricating Grease<br />

Institute) est une classification qui décrit le degré<br />

de consistance des graisses lubrifiantes, les<br />

chiffres élevés indiquant une consistance plus<br />

épaisse et les chiffres bas une consistance plus<br />

fluide. La classe NLGI 2 correspond par exemple<br />

à une graisse lubrifiante de consistance moyenne.<br />

Il existe au total neuf classes NLGI, allant de 000<br />

(graisse fluide) à 6 (consistance cireuse).<br />

Épaississant / savon :<br />

l’épaississant contenu dans une graisse lubrifiante<br />

est une substance qui sert à transformer<br />

l’huile de base liquide en une consistance semisolide<br />

ou solide. Elle lie l’huile de base et forme<br />

une ossature de type éponge qui garantit la<br />

structure et la stabilité de la graisse lubrifiante.<br />

Les épaississants au lithium offrent une bonne<br />

stabilité mécanique, ainsi qu’une bonne résistance<br />

au cisaillement et à la température. Les<br />

épaississants au calcium quant à eux garantissent<br />

une très bonne résistance à l’eau et<br />

conviennent comme graisse multi-usage.<br />

Les épaississants complexes au lithium sont un<br />

type particulier d’épaississant qui se caractérise<br />

par sa grande stabilité mécanique et à l’oxydation.<br />

D’autres types d’épaississants tels que le<br />

sodium, la bentonite, le complexe d’aluminium,<br />

la polyurée et des combinaisons spéciales entre<br />

ces substances sont également utilisés dans<br />

certaines applications.<br />

Viscosité de l’huile de base :<br />

la viscosité de l’huile de base se réfère à la fluidité<br />

ou à la viscosité de l’huile de base. L’huile de<br />

base est absorbée et retenue dans la structure<br />

en éponge de l’épaississant.<br />

À basses températures, une faible viscosité de<br />

l’huile de base constitue un avantage, car l’huile<br />

reste plus fluide et garantit une bonne lubrification,<br />

même par temps froid. En revanche, à des<br />

températures élevées, une viscosité plus élevée<br />

de l’huile de base est nécessaire pour garantir<br />

un film lubrifiant suffisant et une bonne capacité<br />

à supporter des charges.<br />

La viscosité est exprimée en centistokes (cSt) ou<br />

en mm 2 /s.<br />

Température d’utilisation en °C :<br />

indique dans quelle plage de température la<br />

graisse peut fonctionner de manière efficace et<br />

stable sans que ses propriétés lubrifiantes ne<br />

soient significativement altérées. Si la température<br />

est trop basse, la graisse ne peut plus<br />

s’écouler et n’est donc plus en mesure de séparer<br />

les surfaces à lubrifier. Si elle est trop élevée,<br />

la graisse se décompose ou perd son intégrité<br />

structurelle, ce qui peut entraîner une<br />

perte de lubrification et une défaillance de la<br />

lubrification.<br />

Force de soudage :<br />

la force de soudage (déterminée à l’aide d’un<br />

banc de test à quatre billes) est une méthode<br />

de détermination de la résistance au soudage<br />

des lubrifiants. Lors de cette procédure d’essai,<br />

quatre billes d’acier sont pressées les unes<br />

sur les autres avec le lubrifiant selon un schéma<br />

spécifique et elles tournent à une vitesse<br />

définie.<br />

Une force de soudage plus élevée signifie que<br />

la graisse lubrifiante présente une meilleure<br />

résistance au soudage et peut donc être utilisée<br />

dans des applications soumises à des<br />

charges élevées et à des conditions de frottement<br />

extrêmes.<br />

THE MOST IMPORTANT KEY DATA FOR ANY GREASE<br />

NLGI grade:<br />

the NLGI (National Lubricating Grease Institute)<br />

grade is a classification that describes the degree<br />

of consistency of greases, with higher numbers<br />

indicating a thicker consistency and lower<br />

numbers indicating a thinner consistency. For<br />

example, NLGI Class 2 represents grease with a<br />

medium consistency.<br />

There are nine NLGI grades in total and they<br />

range from 000 (fluid grease) to 6 (waxy consistency).<br />

Thickener (soap):<br />

the thickener in a grease is a substance used to<br />

transform the liquid base oil into a semi-solid or<br />

solid consistency. It binds the base oil and forms<br />

a sponge-like framework that ensures the structure<br />

and stability of the lubricating grease.<br />

Lithium thickeners offer good mechanical stability,<br />

shear strength and temperature resistance.<br />

Calcium thickeners offer very good resistance to<br />

water and are suitable as an all-purpose grease.<br />

Lithium complex thickener is a special type of<br />

thickener that is characterised by its high levels<br />

of mechanical and oxidation stability. In addition,<br />

other thickener types such as sodium, bentonite,<br />

aluminium complex, polyurea and special<br />

combinations of these are also used in<br />

certain applications.<br />

Base oil viscosity:<br />

base oil viscosity refers to the fluidity or viscosity<br />

of the base oil. The base oil is absorbed and<br />

retained in the sponge-like structure of the<br />

thickener.<br />

At low temperatures, a low base oil viscosity is<br />

advantageous, as the oil remains thinner and<br />

ensures good lubrication even in cold conditions.<br />

At high temperatures, on the other hand,<br />

a higher base oil viscosity is required to ensure<br />

a sufficient lubricating film and good load carrying<br />

capacity.<br />

The viscosity is specified in centistokes (cSt) or<br />

mm 2 /s.<br />

Operating temperature range in °C:<br />

indicates the temperature range in which the<br />

grease can function effectively and stably without<br />

significantly impairing its lubricating properties.<br />

If the temperature is too low, the grease<br />

can no longer flow and is therefore no longer<br />

able to separate the surfaces to be lubricated. If<br />

it is too high, the grease will degrade or lose its<br />

structural integrity, which can lead to loss of lubrication<br />

capability and lubrication failure.<br />

VKA welding force:<br />

VKA refers to a “four-ball tester” and is a method<br />

for determining the welding resistance of lubricants.<br />

In this test procedure, four steel balls and<br />

the lubricant are pressed together in a specific<br />

arrangement and rotated at a defined speed.<br />

A higher VKA welding force means that the<br />

grease has better welding resistance and can<br />

therefore be used in applications with high<br />

loads and conditions involving extreme friction.<br />

Wann ist der richtige Zeitpunkt für einen<br />

Wechsel des Getriebeöls?<br />

DSG- und Automatikgetriebe werden mechanisch<br />

stark beansprucht. Im Laufe der Zeit<br />

altert das Öl und wird zusätzlich mit Partikeln<br />

aus Reibbelägen verunreinigt. Besonders belastend<br />

sind hohe Betriebstemperaturen, welche<br />

durch offensive Fahrweise, Anhängerbetrieb<br />

oder Autobahnfahrt entstehen. Eine schleichende<br />

Verschlechterung des Schaltverhaltens<br />

ist die Folge und wird oft nicht direkt erkannt<br />

oder als Problem wahrgenommen. Anzeichen<br />

sind zögernde, schleppende oder schlagende<br />

Gangwahl sowie Ruckeln beim Anfahren oder<br />

Manövrieren.<br />

Der richtige Zeitpunkt für den Austausch des<br />

Getriebeöls ist entweder durch den Serviceintervall<br />

des Herstellers oder das Auftreten der<br />

beschriebenen Anzeichen gegeben.<br />

Warum aber das Getriebe «spülen»?:<br />

Durch eine Spülung kann bis zu ca. 98% des<br />

alten Öls ausgetauscht werden, wogegen beim<br />

klassischen Wechsel etwa 2⁄3 des alten Öls im<br />

Getriebe verbleiben. Die Spülung ist also um<br />

ein Vielfaches effizienter.<br />

Quel est le bon moment pour changer l’huile<br />

de transmission ?<br />

Les transmissions DSG et automatiques sont<br />

soumises à des contraintes mécaniques élevées.<br />

Avec le temps, l’huile s’altère et est en<br />

outre contaminée par des particules provenant<br />

des embrayages. Les températures de<br />

fonctionnement élevées dues à une conduite<br />

offensive, l’utilisation d’une remorque ou à la<br />

conduite sur autoroute sont particulièrement<br />

usantes. Il en résulte une détérioration progressive<br />

du comportement de la boîte de vitesses,<br />

qui n’est souvent pas directement reconnue ou<br />

perçue comme un problème. Une sélection de<br />

vitesses hésitante, lente ou claquante et des secousses<br />

au démarrage ou lors des manœuvres<br />

comptent parmi les premiers signes.<br />

Le bon moment pour remplacer l’huile de<br />

transmission est déterminé soit par l’intervalle<br />

d’entretien du fabricant, soit par l’apparition de<br />

ces signes.<br />

Pourquoi « rincer » la boîte de vitesses :<br />

Lors d’un rinçage, 98% de l’huile usagée peut<br />

être remplacée alors qu’avec une vidange classique,<br />

environ 2⁄3 de l’huile usagée reste dans la<br />

boîte de vitesses. Le rinçage est donc beaucoup<br />

plus efficace.<br />

When is the right time to change the gearbox<br />

oil?<br />

DSG and automatic gearboxes are subject to<br />

heavy mechanical stress. Over time, the oil<br />

ages and becomes contaminated with particles<br />

from friction linings. High operating temperatures<br />

caused by harsh driving, trailer operation<br />

or highway driving are particularly stressful.<br />

The quality of shifting slowly deteriorates and<br />

is often not diagnosed as a problem. Signs are<br />

hesitant, sluggish or abrupt shifting as well as<br />

jerking when starting or maneuvering.<br />

The right time to change the transmission oil is<br />

either following the manufacturer's suggested<br />

service interval or the presence of one or more<br />

of the aforementioned signs.<br />

Following a flush, you can expect:<br />

• Like-new shifting response<br />

• Smooth shifting even at cold temperatures<br />

• Optimal gear selection<br />

• Increased service life of the transmission<br />

• Prevent costly repairs<br />

• Increase fuel efficiency with optimal shifting<br />

behaviour<br />

But why "flush" the transmission?<br />

Up to approx. 98% of the old oil can be replaced<br />

by flushing, whereas only about 2⁄3 of the old<br />

oil remains in the transmission with a classic<br />

change. Therefore flushing is much more efficient.<br />
