At the time, opening and operating
gay bars, restaurants, and hotels in
Cathedral City was more accessible
than in Palms Springs. Like many
other places in the country, gay bars
did experience police harassment1.
Although there were as many as 50 gay
bars in Cathedral City over the years,
in the 1990s, more gay bars and hotels
opened in Palm Springs.
Today, Cathedral City is seeing a
resurgence of its gay past with its LGBT
Days and more LGBT establishments
opening, as more and more LGBTQ+
individuals call Cathedral City home.
These days, I hear new calls for
civil disruptions like Neolin, a Lenni
Lenape spiritual visionary who urged
Native Americans to reject European
influences and to revive tribal traditions
that had waned in the generations
since colonization. We can do better.
As a constitutional republic, our
representatives are elected by the
people to govern over us according to
the rules established in the law of the
land. An example of a constitutional
republic is the United States form of
government. Our system was designed
to right itself in any storm because it
can acknowledge failures. However, it
requires a dedicated crew who desires
to right the ship and rescue all victims aerial vehicles.
e-governance, where digital technology
and the internet are used to provide
government services, will happen. This
includes everything from online voting
to digital public services. However,
this doesn’t necessarily constitute
a new “form” of government in the
traditional sense but rather a new
method of administering and delivering
government functions. However what
we do to demorocy will mastter even
more as AI/AR takes control.
