WHERE WE COME FROM
Ryan, Mitch and Abe Krukow
are among three generations
who farm together in Scott and
Clinton counties. Mitch taught
his sons, Ryan and Cory, the
ropes. Now Abe, his brother,
Lane, and cousin, Carver, are
also working with their fathers
and grandfather with hopes to
pass the operation onto their
future children.
“There was a similar climate and
rich soil, and they saw opportunity,”
she said.
After graduating high school,
Mitch headed to college to study
accounting and business, coming
home to take over his grandparents’
farm after his grandfather fell ill.
“After I started farming, I
promised my wife Julie, future
wife at that time, that we could get
a place in town. We wouldn’t live
on the farm forever, just for a year.
I didn’t think she would want to
live on the farm since she grew up
in town. Thank heavens a month or
so after we got married, we were
talking one night, and she asked if
we had to move to town. I didn’t
know where this conversation was
going but she continued and said
she loved living on the farm and
thought it would be a wonderful
place to raise kids. We spent the
rest of our lives at the farm.”
Mitch and Julie raised three kids
“I didn’t really realize how each
part of the process fit into the
whole, or how little things like
trimming fence lines impacted
the big picture, but now I
understand that a lot more.”
their two boys, Cory, and Ryan,
into the operation when they were
in high school.
