If you’ve never used a computer before and you want an easy,<br />

friendly introduction, this is the class for you. The pace is<br />

Internet and Email (Windows XP)<br />

Step into the online world <strong>of</strong> the Internet by learning about<br />

page structures, searching for information, URLs and helpful<br />

sites. Move to the next step <strong>of</strong> using an internet-based email<br />

provider to write and/or send documents to friends, family or<br />

business associates. Familiarity with Windows is a prerequisite<br />

(ideally having taken A Gentle Start in Computers).<br />

Micros<strong>of</strong>t Applications Part I: Word<br />

Learn the basics <strong>of</strong> word processing using Micros<strong>of</strong>t Word.<br />

This application can be used to create memos, letters, faxes<br />

and many more types <strong>of</strong> documents. You will learn how to<br />

create, save and print documents, while also learning features<br />

that add style and color for a more pr<strong>of</strong>essional and attractive<br />

look. Basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> Windows with use <strong>of</strong> a mouse<br />

and keyboard is needed. Textbook is available in the FVCC<br />

Bookstore for about $20.<br />

Micros<strong>of</strong>t Applications Part II: Excel<br />

Electronic spreadsheets have become an essential part <strong>of</strong><br />

every business and are also very useful at home. Learn the<br />

basics using one <strong>of</strong> the most popular spreadsheet applications,<br />

Micros<strong>of</strong>t Excel. This application will allow you to create<br />

documents that perform numerical calculations rapidly and<br />

accurately. You will learn to calculate data using formulas and<br />

functions as well as formatting that will help your document<br />

be more readable. Basic knowledge <strong>of</strong> Windows with the use<br />

<strong>of</strong> a mouse and keyboard is needed. Textbook is available in<br />

the FVCC Bookstore for about $20.<br />

functions, spellchecker and grammar check, and other basics.<br />

Prerequisite: experience in basic Windows functions or some<br />

experience with Word.<br />
