The 1974 Long Kesh Escape & the Killing of Hugh Coney<br />
Mac Diarmada GAA Club, Falls Road, Sat 4th Aug, 7.30pm<br />
In 1974 republic<strong>an</strong>s, protesting against conditions, burnt down<br />
the Cages of Long Kesh <strong>an</strong>d were subsequently gassed <strong>an</strong>d<br />
beaten by British soldiers. Whilst living in the ruins of the camp,<br />
internees beg<strong>an</strong> digging a tunnel. Paddy Joe Rice, O/C of Cage 5,<br />
describes the pl<strong>an</strong>ning of <strong>an</strong> escape; Fra McC<strong>an</strong>n & Tony Bootser<br />
Hughes on tunnelling & the escape; Rocky Morg<strong>an</strong> on the<br />
shooting dead of their comrade Hugh Coney during the escape.<br />

new trial for the m<strong>an</strong> who has come to symbolize the continued<br />
