The first cruise ship
The Homeric was built in 1986
for Home Lines; in 1990 as the
Westerdam it was converted for
Holland America Line, USA and
extended by 40 metres to 244
metres. Never before had a cruise
liner of this size been extended
to this extent. The major conversion
and extension work also
included additional cabins, the
two-storey show lounge and
extended restaurants. Since 2002,
the ship has been running under
the name Costa Europe for the
Italian Costa line.
The Crown Odyssey delivered in
1989 was one of the most luxurious
cruise liners of its day for
worldwide voyages. The owner
who had placed the order was
the Greek Royal Cruise Line.
