Solvang 58 Gas tankers MEYER WERFT enjoys an outstanding international reputation for building gas and chemical tankers. These technically demanding <strong>ships</strong> are a particular speciality from the shipbuilders in the Emsland region. Through to the end of 2008, four 17,000 m³ sized gas tankers will have been built for the Norwegian shipping company Solvang ASA. Back in 1997, the yard received an order from a Norwegian shipping group under the auspices of Solvang ASA to build two ice-reinforced ethylene tankers. These ethylene tankers transport the liquefied gas at -102°C. LPG tanker Clipper Hebe. The first ship, Clipper Viking, was delivered to Solvang in 1998. Like their predecessors Clipper Viking and Clipper Harald, the new gas tankers reach a speed of 18 knots. Apart from ethylene, all <strong>ships</strong> can also transport ammonia, propylene oxide and vinyl chloride monomer. Through to 2010, MEYER WERFT will thus have built a series of eight gas tankers for Solvang and Harpain, so that it is successfully represented on this market.
