COMPASSES AND COMPASS ACCESSORIES
Compass, selection should be based on the size Pedestal used and the type of sailing conditions under which the compass will be used.
For offshore cruising with long runs, a larger compass will help in steering a straighter course because of its better readability and steadier
performance. When used at night, larger cards are also easier to read. If all sailing is done during the daytime hours or in coastal or inland
waters where a compass is only occassionally used, a smaller compass is sufficient. Base the decision upon your requirements. If at a later
date, a larger compass is required, the Fig 758 Compass Riser Extendercan be used to adapt that compass to any Edson Pedestal. All 5"and 6"
compasses come complete with cylinders and domes as illustrated be low and are available either from Edson or your local marine supply
store. The new Fig 856 Compass Adaptor also accepts a stainless steel dome. All compasses are equipped with a 5" lighted cards (12 volt DC)
and built in correctors. The compass light must be properly wired and should be checked for the correct polarity. If improperly wired an electrical
charge can be created within the pedestal causing the exterior coating to blister and peel.
Note: for new compass mndels and sizes see price page.
