Fish m o r e active as weather cools<br />

Fishing is improving as the weather<br />
cools, and the best catches of the year<br />
will be after Labor Day.<br />
In the shallow waters of Lake St.<br />
Clair's Anchor Bay, Goose Bay and<br />
Muscamoot Bay in Macomb and St.<br />
Clair counties, fisherman are catching<br />
good numbers of perch in the 8-12-inch<br />
range. Try fishing in three to four feet<br />
of water <strong>for</strong> best results<br />
Chinook salmon are showing up in<br />
the St. Clair River. Fisherman out<br />
drifting <strong>for</strong> walleye are finding chinook<br />
salmon taking bait.<br />
In Oakland County, fair to good<br />
catches of bluegill are being taking on<br />
Lake Louise and Big Lake.<br />

A junior naturalist discovery program<br />
<strong>for</strong> boysi and girls ages 9-13 will<br />
be held on Saturday, Sept. 18 from 10<br />
a.m. to 2 p.m. Naturlist Glenn Dent will<br />
lead the young naturalists as they explore<br />
the <strong>for</strong>est, lakes and streams<br />
around the nature center.<br />
Participants should bring a lunch<br />
and drink to each session. The program<br />
is free, but register in advance by calling<br />
the nature center at 697-9181.<br />
Mental health<br />
providers protest cuts<br />
Wayne County community mental<br />
health providers and clients rallied on<br />
the State Capitol steps in Lansing last<br />
week to protest a proposed $4.2-million<br />
cut in services.<br />
John VanCamp, spokesman, said,<br />
