What's new in American film? The
Classic Film Theatre folks attempt to
answer that question by presenting
eight new, independently made films in
the next four weeks at the Punch &
Judy. The CFT describes its fare as
"the collective product of a highly diverse
group of talented and dedicated
regional filmmakers" and explains that
one earmark of all the films is a low,
low budget.
John Sayles' "Secaucus 7" was made
on $60,000, and went on to win numerous
awards and critical praise. It's the
story of the weekend reunion of seven
friends — political activists in their
student years — who are now approaching
middle age.
"The Dozens" is a film by Christine
Dall and Randall Conrad that concerns
a young woman, recently released
from a correctional facility, who must
deal with an infant child, a cocaine-
