mark in four years.
"It will be tough to catch Churchill
and Northville in our division," said the
Franklin coach, "but we're going to
give it a shot.
"We should have some close games
this year. We're balanced. We should
make a real effort out of it."
LIVONIA BENTLEY
Pete Camilleri becomes the youngest
coach in the league at 22 years. He replaces
Paul Scicluna, who retired after
four seasons.
Ten players graduated and eight return.
The biggest loss was striker Marty
Caves, who scored 20 goals for the
Bulldogs made All-League and secondteam
All-State.
The Pulice's are cousins, not brothers.
Camilleri admits his team is very
young. The Bulldogs open tonight at
Churchill. Game time is 7.
"We'll have to run and hustle," said
the rookie coach. "We could surprise a
few teams on our schedule."
PLYMOUTH CANTON
The Chiefs, coached by Tony Lonigro,
ward, is also expected to contribute
right away.
Canton is carrying 24 players this
year. Forty-eight competed for spots.
"We believe we'll be a better and
stronger team this fall," said the second-year
coach. "Our midfield is much
improved from 1981. We were a good
first-half team, but in the second half
we went down."
CATHOLIC CENTRAL
Twelve players return from last
year's 14-5 squad.
Ten graduate^. The most notable
Notre Dame, Harper Woods Bishop
Gallagher, Birmingham Brother Rice
and Redford Bishop Borgess.
"We're going to be quick to the ball,"
said Thrasher. "Our shooting is much
improved from last year. We could set
another record' in goal scoring this
year."
Thrasher said Notre Dame and De-
LaSalle are the top contenders along
with his team for the league crown.
BISHOP BORGESS
First-year coach Rich Misialowski, a
1973 Borgess grad, takes over an inexperienced
mentor.
Five players figure to contribute
GARDEN CITY
"I get an education every time I go
out for practice," said Gary Prevo, the
coach who is launching Garden City's
first varsity team.
"These guys have all played recreation
soccer, but this is a different
brand," he added. "We have excellent
talent and we'll be a well balanced
team."
Senior Cary Even is the team captain.
Juniors Scott Gromacki and Andy
Muglia serve as assistant captains.
Seniors Ron Adolf, Frank Gentile
and Sam Falk are expected to provide
added leadership. Craig Skinner is the
goaltender for the Cougars.
"Our strengths are our back positions
and also our cross halfbacks," said Prevo.
"I feel confident about our defense.
Our forward line is also coming along."
Garden City will compete as an independent
during its first year of play.
"I think we'll be competitive with the
teams on our schedule," Prevo said. "I
think we'll have a team for Stevenson
to look out for."
