Oakway Symphony Orchestra Conductor<br />
Francesco Di Blasi has been<br />
busy making orchestrations <strong>for</strong> Polish<br />
singers and dancers, who will open<br />
Oakways's 10th anniversary season in<br />
"Polish Spectacular!"<br />
The concert will present the Galicja<br />
Song and Dance Ensemble at 3 p.m.<br />
Sept. 26 at Madonna College, 1-96 and<br />
Levan, Livonia. Sister Francilene Van<br />
de Vyver, whose own heritage is Polish,<br />
will be guest conductor.<br />
The next three concert on on the season<br />
subscription series will be given at<br />
Harrison High School, 12 Mile Road<br />
west of Middlebelt in Farmington Hills.<br />
Samuel Mayes will play the Schumann<br />
Concerto <strong>for</strong> Cello at 3 p.m. Oct. 17.<br />
Ara Berberian, basso, and Dr. Harry<br />
Begian, guest conductor, will appear in<br />
a primarily Armenian concert at 3 p.m.<br />
Nov. 28.<br />
Artists of Tomorrow will present the<br />
winners of Oakway's annual artist<br />
competition, which is the largest in<br />
Michigan, at 3 p.m. Feb. 20. Four<br />
winners among young singers and instrumentals<br />
will per<strong>for</strong>m with the orchestra.<br />
"Ballet — Burczyk — Beethoven" is<br />
a program combining the Contemporary<br />
Civic Ballet, Ruth Burczyk as piano<br />
soloist and the music of Beethoven's<br />
Piano Concerto No. 5 ("The Emperor"),<br />
at 8 p.m. April 15 at Southfield-Lathrup<br />
High School.<br />
Final concert in the series will feature<br />
pianist Ralph Votapek, first<br />
winner of the Van Cliburn International<br />
Competition in 1962, with Bloomfield<br />
Hills resident Ernest A. Jones as<br />
guest conductor, at 3 p.m. May 22 at<br />
Orchestra Hall in Detroit.<br />
Oakway will offer its 10th annual<br />
Cabaret Concert at 8 p.m. March 19 at<br />
Madonna College. Fat Bob Taylor and<br />
Julia Broxholm will sing light classical<br />
and popular songs, pianist Alice Haidostian<br />
will per<strong>for</strong>m Gershwin's<br />
"Rhapsody in Blue" and Sister Van De<br />
Vyver will be guest conductor.<br />
