6C*(R,W,G-6B) O&E Thursday, Sept ember 9, 1982 The Look will be visiting several clubs in the Detroit area to introduce its record "Look Again." upcoming things to do • REVUE CONTINUES Livonia resident Phil Marcus Esser's musical revue "Cole Porter at the Book Cadillac" has been extended two weeks, Fridays-Saturdays through Sept. 18, at the Book Cadillac Hotel in downtown Detroit. A dinner show as at 7 p.m., with an 8:30 p.m. performance. Tickets also are available for show only. The late show has seating at 11 p.m. and show at 11:30. For more information call 961-2267. • CROW'S NEST Jazz pianist Charles Boles is appearing through Oct. 2 at the Crow's Nest in the Mayflower Hotel, Plymouth. This week he will appear at the Plymouth Festival, playing from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. tonight through Saturday on the Mayflower II's deck. Cocktails will be served, and there will be no cover charge for the outdoor entertainment Boles has worked with many jazz greats including B.B King, Aretha Franklin, Dinah Washington and Marvin Gaye. • JAMIE'S MUSIC Johnny Trudell plays Mondays at Jamie's on 7, 29703 W. Seven Mile Road, Livonia. Krosswinds is the attraction alternating with Smokin' on Tuesdays. Smokin' also plays Wednesdays-Saturdays. • CHOIR AUDITIONS The Livonia Youth Choir is looking for students to audition for the Elementary (fifth and sixth), Intermediate (seventh and eighth) and Senior (ninth through 12th) divisions from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Monday in the Music Department at Bentley High School, 15100 Hubbard at Five Mile Road. Those auditioning need not be Livonia residents. For additional information call 591-1408, or Linda Parr at 525- 4177. • THE LOOK Introducing its new album called "Look Again," the Look will make several Detroit-area appearances. The band will appear tonight at Harpo's in Detroit, Saturday at the Music Box in Westland, Tuesday at Jaggers in Waterford and Sept. 17 at Cobo Hall, for the Motor City Jam in conjunction with WRIF • INDIA FESTIVAL A festival of Indian art, music and culture will be held Friday-Sunday at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit. The festival will open at 11:30 a.m. Friday for the downtown lunch crowd and will officially open at 6 p.m. Friday with a prayer and invocation dance by Tina Makim. Dances from Bengal will be presented by the Bengali group Bichitra. Highlight of Saturday's program will be a Folk Dance Competition beginning at 4 p.m. Another competition of classical dances will be presented Sunday. Ethnic foods representing different Indian states and an ethnic gallery with arts and crafts of India also will be featured. \ Orbison in concert • BIG BANDS The big band sounds of Johnny Trudell and Eddie Nuccilli will be heard during the second annual Big Bands Bash Benefit for Detroit's Music Hall Center, from 7-11 p.m. Friday at the Renaissance Ballroom of the Westin Hotel. This year's bash is being presented by radio station KJY (94 FM) whose format features the big band sound of the '40s and '50s. Tickets at $10 are available at the Music Hall Box Office, any CTC outlet or at the door. • MOON FESTIVAL The sixth annual Moon Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday at various lcoations on the Wayne State University campus in Detroit. The festival will feature Chinese dances, calligraphy and painting demonstrations, fashion shows, children's games, Chinese movies, and food and gift booths, as well as a Tea House at the Alumni House. • RECORD PARTY The band International Travler will appear at a record release party Friday night at Traxx in Detroit. The band has been playing in the Detroit area for about four years, presenting all its own music. Its concerts offer theater rock in a two-hour show of original music. Band members are Dan London, Joseph Anthony, John Westbrook and Matt Bono. This is the band's first record, featuring songs called "International Travler" and "Unemployment.'' There is a $3 cover charge for Friday's party at Traxx which also will present the group Andromeda. • B.B. KING Blues star B.B. King will appear in concert at 8 tonight at Meadow Brook Music Festival's Baldwin Pavilion on the Oakland University campus near Rochester. Along with King and his guitar, the program will include special guest artist Bobby "Blue" Bland. Tickets at $10 for pavilion and $8 for lawn are available at the Campus Ticket Office, Meadow Brook Music Festival Box Office and CTC outlets. • TOP 40 Vizitor, a five-member, all-male Top 40 dance band, will appear Monday through Sept. 25 at Yesterday's in Southfield's Sheraton-Southfield Hotel. The band performs from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Mondays-Saturdays. • REPERTORY OPENS The Fourth Street Playhouse in Royal Oak will open its first repertory production of the 1982-83 season with "The Woolgatherer" by William Mastrosimone at 8:30 tonight. Performances continue at 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, 6 p.m. Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays through Oct. 9. Tickets are $5, with discount is available for students and senior citizens. For further information call 543-3666. i 1 , Singing star Roy Orbison will appear in concert at 9 p.m. Monday at Center Stage, 39940 Ford Road, Canton. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. Tickets at $11 are available at Hudson's, all CTC outlets and the Center Stage box office. Get a Hot Dog for 2CK Oakway Symphony Orchestra Conductor Francesco Di Blasi has been busy making orchestrations for Polish singers and dancers, who will open Oakways's 10th anniversary season in "Polish Spectacular!" The concert will present the Galicja Song and Dance Ensemble at 3 p.m. Sept. 26 at Madonna College, 1-96 and Levan, Livonia. Sister Francilene Van de Vyver, whose own heritage is Polish, will be guest conductor. The next three concert on on the season subscription series will be given at Harrison High School, 12 Mile Road west of Middlebelt in Farmington Hills. Samuel Mayes will play the Schumann Concerto for Cello at 3 p.m. Oct. 17. Ara Berberian, basso, and Dr. Harry Begian, guest conductor, will appear in a primarily Armenian concert at 3 p.m. Nov. 28. Artists of Tomorrow will present the winners of Oakway's annual artist competition, which is the largest in Michigan, at 3 p.m. Feb. 20. Four winners among young singers and instrumentals will perform with the orchestra. "Ballet — Burczyk — Beethoven" is a program combining the Contemporary Civic Ballet, Ruth Burczyk as piano soloist and the music of Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5 ("The Emperor"), at 8 p.m. April 15 at Southfield-Lathrup High School. Final concert in the series will feature pianist Ralph Votapek, first winner of the Van Cliburn International Competition in 1962, with Bloomfield Hills resident Ernest A. Jones as guest conductor, at 3 p.m. May 22 at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Oakway will offer its 10th annual Cabaret Concert at 8 p.m. March 19 at Madonna College. Fat Bob Taylor and Julia Broxholm will sing light classical and popular songs, pianist Alice Haidostian will perform Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Sister Van De Vyver will be guest conductor.
