these teachings to other types of people: to those of the greater way who<br />

aspire to this path and goal.<br />

DE YIN TE, DAM CHOS PAD DKAR LAS,<br />

,MGON PO DE RING BDAG CAG NYAN THOS GYUR,<br />

,BYANG CHUB DAM PA YANG DAG BSGRAG PAR BGYI,<br />

,BYANG CHUB PA YI SGRA YANG RAB TU BRJOD,<br />

,DE BAS BDAG CAG NYAN THOS MI BZAD 'DRA,<br />

,ZHES GSUNGS PA'I PHYIR,<br />

And this is true because the Holy Dharma of the White Lotus says,<br />

O Savior, today we have become your listeners,<br />

And now we shall proclaim, perfectly,<br />

That highest enlightenment.<br />

We will echo and spread the word<br />

Of this enlightenment;<br />

And so we will become, in a sense,<br />

Your unworthy listeners.<br />

Now just because the word “listener” is applied to someone, that doesn’t<br />

mean that it applies to them in its literal sense.<br />

TU YOD KYANG, BSHAD DU MED PA'I PHYIR,<br />

And this is true because there are listeners in the formless realm to whom<br />

the word “listener” can be properly applied, but not its literal sense.<br />

DPER NA SKAM LAS SKYES PA'I PADMA LA MTSO SKYES KYI SGRA<br />

'JUG TU YOD KYANG BSHAD DU MED PA LTA BU YIN PA'I PHYIR,<br />

For example, the expression “born of the lake” can properly be applied to a<br />

lotus that has grown in a dry spot, even though it doesn’t describe that<br />

particular lotus in a literal sense.<br />

Now there do exist cases where bodhisattvas listen to the teachings on the
