Basel gears up to help
Falcon customers
Earlier this year Jet Aviation Basel took
delivery of Europe’s only dummy landing
gear for Dassault’s Falcon 50/900/2000
series aircraft. The Basel facility used
the gear for the first time in July. Michael
Sattler, senior vice president maintenance
Basel, says, “our on-site engineers
came up with the idea after several of our
clients requested a new paint job at the
same time as their 2C checks.”
Ordinarily various jobs cannot be per-
formed simultaneously, but because the
dummy gear has wheels, engineers can

When a client of Jet Aviation Dusseldorf
landed with its Hawker 850 XP in icy
conditions early in the year, the aircraft
almost slid off the landing strip. Shortly
after the incident, the aircraft was flown
back to Dusseldorf for inspection and repair.
The right-hand flap assy as well as
the wing fitting to the fuselage and airbrake
needed to be replaced. At the same
time the engine and landing gear were inspected
and overhauled.
During the inspection, the team of technicians
discovered that the right-hand
landing gear attachment fitting had been
broken, probably caused by the forces
during the landing. This was an extremely
unusual procedure since the fitting is an
integral part of the wing structure. One of
the parts from the core of the wing structure
needed to be rebuilt, a procedure
only performed once before on a Hawker
850 XP aircraft.
“Our most experienced Hawker specialists
were assigned to this complex project
and managed it successfully in four and a
half months,” says Johannes Turzer, senior
vice president and general manager

Sattler adds, “Jet Aviation Basel is the
only facility in Europe that has a dummy
gear for the Falcon product line. With
it, there is less down time, as we can
perform several tasks at once, such as
functional checks or engine run-ups.” In
summary, the aircraft are easily moveable
and do not block hangar space.
