S 3000 – double safety for travell<strong>in</strong>g production gantry<br />

Eight safety laser scanners <strong>in</strong> use on a production gantry for Airbus components<br />

<strong>in</strong> Spa<strong>in</strong><br />

S 3000 safety laser scanners not only monitor <strong>the</strong> 50 m long and 11 m<br />

wide path of a giant production gantry for Airbus components – <strong>the</strong>y also<br />

protect employees who are work<strong>in</strong>g below <strong>the</strong> gantry.<br />

Vertical protective field for<br />

safety on wafer robots<br />

With its reliable view from above, an S 3000 Standard<br />

protects <strong>the</strong> operators of a wafer-polish<strong>in</strong>g plant from<br />

reach<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> workspace of <strong>the</strong> handl<strong>in</strong>g robot. Only<br />

<strong>the</strong> S 3000 could solve this task because it is <strong>the</strong> only<br />

safety scanner of its type to be approved for vertical protection.<br />

all, 40 m long – <strong>the</strong> process<strong>in</strong>g tool<br />

travels over <strong>the</strong> aeroplane part under<br />

production by means of a gantry.<br />

Four S 3000s for <strong>the</strong> drive path<br />

Two S 3000 laser scanners per direc-<br />

mach<strong>in</strong>e conditions. The device is <strong>in</strong>stalled<br />

on <strong>the</strong> upper section of <strong>the</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>e<br />

framework with a sufficient safety<br />

distance. With its resolution of 30 mm<br />

<strong>the</strong> scanner <strong>in</strong>stantly detects if a hand<br />

reaches <strong>in</strong>to <strong>the</strong> mach<strong>in</strong>e. The hazardous<br />

movement of <strong>the</strong> robot <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> polish<strong>in</strong>g<br />

plant is <strong>the</strong>n immediately halted.<br />

fibre tape while <strong>the</strong> gantry is <strong>in</strong> motion.<br />

The application tool on <strong>the</strong> gantry<br />

<strong>the</strong>n applies a glue-like material to jo<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> <strong>in</strong>dividual carbon fibre tape layers<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r. Four fur<strong>the</strong>r S 3000s form an<br />

<strong>in</strong>visible protective barrier around <strong>the</strong><br />

tool’s operat<strong>in</strong>g area <strong>in</strong> order to protect<br />

workers.<br />
