conduct our Annual Scientific
Meeting!
As part of our preconference
certification program on Wednesday,
March 28, Dr. Will Gianni, Dr. Mitch
Lomke, and Angie Mott, RDH will
present this year’s Standard
Proficiency Course. New this year
will be Lasers 101 — a 3-hour introductory
course for nonusers led by
Dr. Chuck Hoopingarner.
World-famous physicist Dr.
Gregory Altschuler will be our
opening session keynote speaker on
Thursday. He will share his experiences
as a laser pioneer in the former
Soviet Union and his new projects in
developing the next generation of
lasers. The program on chromophores
by Dr. Bryant Cornelius and Dr.
Jeffery Cornelius promises to be very
enlightening. Mary Lynn Smith,
RDH will be sharing insights
comparing the use of 980-nm and
10,600-nm laser wavelengths in
nonsurgical perio dontal therapy.
Gloria Monzon, RDH will compare
the effects of 3 laser wavelengths on
one patient years apart.
Hands hurt? Cracked? Wonder
about gloves? Leslie Canham, CDA
will poke some fun into these topics.
Endo, anyone? Dr. Ron Porth will
share his ongoing study of the efficacy
of lasers in the canals. Dr. Roy
George of Australia will show us

Perio, anyone? Internationally
known periodontist Dr. Larry Nurin
will share his secrets of laser use
over the past 21 years of practice. We
will see how periodontal surgery is
performed in Japan by the renowned
Dr. Hisamori Hayashihara. Thursday
workshops will include DNA testing
by Dr. Doug Gilio, diode surgery by
Dr. Phil Hudson, and Keynote on
Mac by Dr. Larry Kotlow (bring your
Mac computer!).
Friday will begin with Past
President Dr. Kim Kutch giving a
keynote presentation on minimally
invasive dentistry. Our student
presenter, Jeema Dad, will share her
work in a study of bond strengths in
lased tooth structure. Dr. Sebastiano
Andreana and Jeanette Miranda,
RDH will describe the use of lasers
in implant dentistry. Dr. Chris
Walinski is going to show us how to
accomplish minimally invasive techniques
with erbium lasers. Dr. Gabi
Kesler from Israel will share bone
healing with erbium lasers. Dr.
Larry Kotlow will have some
provocative thoughts about why we
don’t get the most use out of our
lasers. Drs. Peter Pang and Rick
