RESEARCH TECHNIQUES<br />

Description: This course offers exposure to and experience with electronic and<br />
traditional resources for <strong>in</strong>formation generation. Student assignments simulate<br />
workplace fact-f<strong>in</strong>d<strong>in</strong>g assignments and culm<strong>in</strong>ate <strong>in</strong> an extended feasibility project<br />
of the student's choice. Students work <strong>in</strong> teams and use problem-solv<strong>in</strong>g strategies,<br />
assess project requirements, collect data, report periodically on their progress, and<br />
formally present their results. A variety of research methodologies are <strong>in</strong>troduced,<br />
<strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>terview<strong>in</strong>g skills, develop<strong>in</strong>g and us<strong>in</strong>g questionnaires, test<strong>in</strong>g<br />
procedures, review and use of literature, and bluepr<strong>in</strong>t and specification read<strong>in</strong>g.<br />

Description: This course will teach students how to determ<strong>in</strong>e what computer and<br />
net- work equipment is appropriate for use <strong>in</strong> a home or small office network.<br />
Students will learn the basic configurations for a home/small office network and<br />
explore <strong>in</strong> a lab environment the different hardware and software tools and<br />
configurations required to establish a personal local area network.<br />

Description: An <strong>in</strong>troduction to the basic tools of statistical analysis used <strong>in</strong><br />
bus<strong>in</strong>ess, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g charts, frequency distribution, averages, dispersion, probability<br />
theory, sampl<strong>in</strong>g. Logical procedures for mak<strong>in</strong>g bus<strong>in</strong>ess decisions under<br />
conditions of uncerta<strong>in</strong>ty are emphasized. Hypothesis test<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g one, two<br />
and k-sample test means, proportions, regression and correlation analysis are also<br />
<strong>in</strong>cluded.<br />
