D. Sessions: The board will convene whenever a request for a hear<strong>in</strong>g is presented,<br />
but only dur<strong>in</strong>g the academic quarters and not dur<strong>in</strong>g any school recess period. The<br />
chair will convene the sessions by mutual agreement with the other members.<br />
E. Recusals: Board members will be recused <strong>in</strong> the event of any conflict of <strong>in</strong>terest.<br />
Any faculty board member mak<strong>in</strong>g a request will be automatically recused. Should<br />
the student member be <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> the activity described <strong>in</strong> the request he or she<br />
will be recused and replaced by a student member appo<strong>in</strong>ted by the <strong>AUK</strong> Student<br />
Government. The chair will recuse any board member should he or she determ<strong>in</strong>e<br />
that a conflict of <strong>in</strong>terest exists. Each board member is charged with the<br />
responsibility to report any conflict of <strong>in</strong>terest he or she believes to exist to the chair.<br />
3.7.1 Conduct Committee Processes<br />
DISCIPLINARY AND ACADEMIC DISHONESTY HEARINGS<br />
A. Charge and Initial Decision to Pursue Student Conduct Hear<strong>in</strong>gs:<br />
Both academic dishonesty and student misconduct cases are resolved through<br />
hear<strong>in</strong>gs held by the <strong>AUK</strong> Conduct Committee. In all such <strong>in</strong>stances, students may<br />
appeal to the <strong>AUK</strong> President by us<strong>in</strong>g the appeal procedures listed <strong>in</strong> the APPEALS<br />
section, below.<br />
Most academic dishonesty cases do not reach the <strong>AUK</strong> Conduct Committee. Only<br />
when the matter cannot be resolved, or when the nature of the dishonesty is so<br />
serious that it is felt that a full hear<strong>in</strong>g is necessary, will these matters be handled at<br />
the Conduct Committee level.<br />
B. Compla<strong>in</strong>ts of Misconduct: Any member of the <strong>University</strong> community may file a<br />
compla<strong>in</strong>t aga<strong>in</strong>st any student for misconduct. A compla<strong>in</strong>t concern<strong>in</strong>g academic<br />
conduct matters is normally made to the Director of <strong>Academic</strong> Affairs, although<br />
compla<strong>in</strong>ts also can be made directly to the <strong>AUK</strong> Conduct Committee. The<br />
compla<strong>in</strong>t, <strong>in</strong> written form, will be submitted to the Chair of the <strong>AUK</strong> Conduct<br />
Committee, who will conduct an <strong>in</strong>itial review as appropriate to determ<strong>in</strong>e if the<br />
charges appear to have merit and/or require further <strong>in</strong>vestigation and a student<br />
conduct hear<strong>in</strong>g.<br />
C. Notification of Compla<strong>in</strong>t: An accused student will be asked to meet with the<br />
Chair of the <strong>AUK</strong> Conduct Committee and will be <strong>in</strong>formed of the fact that a<br />
compla<strong>in</strong>t has been filed aga<strong>in</strong>st him or her. The hear<strong>in</strong>g procedure will be described<br />
and the student directed to the <strong>AUK</strong> Undergraduate Bullet<strong>in</strong> section on the Students<br />
Bill of Rights and the Hear<strong>in</strong>g and Appeals procedure.<br />
