2.5 M<strong>in</strong>ors<br />

<strong>AUK</strong> offers students a number of academic m<strong>in</strong>ors to complement and enhance their<br />

undergraduate studies. Students often choose a m<strong>in</strong>or to develop personal or<br />

professional <strong>in</strong>terests beyond their chosen degree program. M<strong>in</strong>ors require the<br />

completion of five (5) upper-level courses (20 quarter credit hours) <strong>in</strong> a designated<br />

area. This section of the Undergraduate <strong>Academic</strong> Bullet<strong>in</strong> lists course requirements<br />

established for the approved m<strong>in</strong>ors offered by <strong>AUK</strong>.<br />

At <strong>AUK</strong>, a m<strong>in</strong>or is def<strong>in</strong>ed as a thematically related set of courses consist<strong>in</strong>g of no<br />

less than 20 quarter credit hours, taken from a discipl<strong>in</strong>e or an <strong>in</strong>terdiscipl<strong>in</strong>ary area<br />

dist<strong>in</strong>ct from the student’s major program of study. Completion of a m<strong>in</strong>or results <strong>in</strong><br />

a formal designation on a student’s academic transcript upon graduation from <strong>AUK</strong>.<br />

Currently there are 4 m<strong>in</strong>ors offered at <strong>AUK</strong>. Students are required to complete one<br />

m<strong>in</strong>or <strong>in</strong> order to graduate. M<strong>in</strong>ors completed <strong>in</strong> designated areas with<strong>in</strong> the College<br />

of Liberal Arts may be used to fulfill a portion of the university's general education<br />

requirements.<br />

Students must sign up for a m<strong>in</strong>or and complete the M<strong>in</strong>or Authorization form.<br />

Failure to complete this form will result <strong>in</strong> the student not be<strong>in</strong>g certified for the<br />

m<strong>in</strong>or and the m<strong>in</strong>or not be<strong>in</strong>g listed on the student’s official record.<br />

2.5.1 M<strong>in</strong>or: Economics (20 Credits)<br />

An economics m<strong>in</strong>or provides a systemic analysis of economic issues through the<br />

study of the allocation of scarce resources <strong>in</strong>to production and the distribution of<br />

production among the members of society.<br />

Required Courses:<br />

� Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of Microeconomics<br />

� Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of Macroeconomics<br />

Plus any 3 of the follow<strong>in</strong>g courses:<br />

� Public F<strong>in</strong>ance<br />

� Natural Resource Economics<br />

� Benefit-Cost Analysis<br />
