Scénář vychází z reálného příběhu. Roku 1878 se v chudé venkovské rodině v Čechách narodily siamské sestry Blažkovy. Měly společné
břicho, boky a genitálie. Díky podpoře místního šlechtice se od dětství učily hudbě a zpěvu. Jako varietní umělkyně si vydobyly značnou
popularitu. V jednatřiceti letech porodily zdravého chlapce. Vzbudily značnou zvědavost, ale nikdy nikomu neřekly, kdo je otcem. Syna
vychovávaly společně a on oběma říkal mami. Po jeho narození přestaly cestovat a založily zájezdní hostinec, který úspěšně vedly řadu let. Když
jim bylo čtyřiačtyřicet, odjely na turné po Spojených státech. Josefa tam vážně onemocněla. Když bylo zřejmé, že zemře, nabídli američtí lékaři
Růženě sekci. Zásah by byl velmi riskantní, ale dával šanci na přežití. Růžena odmítla a zemřela asi deset minut po své sestře. Scénář není
dokumentární biografie, ale na půdorysů uvedených faktů vypráví vlastní verzi těchto dvou zcela mimořádných životů.
The screenplay is based on a true story. In 1878, Josefa and Růžena Blažková, Siamese twins, were born into a poor country family in Bohemia.
They shared a stomach, hips, and genitalia. Thanks to the support of a local aristocrat they were taught music and voice from an early age. The
twins went on to win great popularity as vaudeville performers. At age 31 they gave birth to a healthy boy. The event drew considerable curiosity
but the sisters never told anyone who the father was. They raised the boy together and he called them both mom. After giving birth, they stopped
traveling and started up a successful roadside inn. At age 44 they left for a tour of the United States, where Josefa fell seriously ill. When it
became clear that she would die, American doctors offered to separate her from Růžena. The operation would be very risky but it offered
a chance to survive. Růžena refused and died ten minutes after her sister. The script is not written as a documentary biography but uses the
given facts as an outline to tell its own version of two remarkable lives.
