Angevine established himself in the furniture<br />

business in South Norwalk, Con-<br />

necticut, under the name <strong>of</strong> the A. J.<br />

Angevine & Son Company. From the<br />

beginning the venture was successful, and<br />

in January, 1917, Mr. Angevine opened<br />

another store in Stamford on his own account.<br />

At this time the corporation was<br />

dissolved, and Mr. Angevine took charge<br />

<strong>of</strong> the Stamford branch <strong>of</strong> the business.<br />

While building up a reputation as a<br />

successful and sagacious business man,<br />

Mr. Angevine has also acquired that <strong>of</strong><br />

a public-spirited citizen, always quietly<br />

ready to "lend a hand" in any plan de-<br />

signed to improve community conditions<br />

and never failing to show himself kind<br />

and obliging in the relations <strong>of</strong> friend and<br />

neighbor. Through an active career <strong>of</strong><br />

more than half a century, Mr. Angevine<br />

has never failed in courage, initiative, per-<br />

sistence, aggressiveness, or integrity,<br />

qualities which are almost certain to<br />

bring, eventually, success with honor. He<br />

and all who know him can abundantly<br />

testify that they have brought it to him.<br />

Mr. Angevine married Ida Hartwejl,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Orville and Mary Jane (Cole)<br />

Hartwell, <strong>of</strong> Ypsilanti, Michigan, and<br />

they became the parents <strong>of</strong> one son,<br />

Floyd J., <strong>of</strong> whom further.<br />

ANGEVINE, Floyd J.,<br />

Business Man.<br />

Floyd J. Angevine, son <strong>of</strong> Albert Jay<br />

and Ida (Hartwell) Angevine, was born<br />

near Allegan, Michigan, August 23, 1880.<br />

He was educated in the schools <strong>of</strong> Grand<br />

Rapids, Michigan ;<br />

Springfield, Massachusetts<br />

; and Bridgeport, <strong>Connecticut</strong>; and<br />

in 1902 entered business with his father.<br />

From the establishment <strong>of</strong> the South Norwalk<br />

furniture store under the name <strong>of</strong><br />

A. J. Angevine & Son Company until<br />

November, 1917, he was identified with<br />

the elder Angevine in the management <strong>of</strong><br />

the business. When the corporation was<br />

dissolved, at the latter date, and Mr. An-<br />

gevine, Sr., opened a store in Stamford,<br />

Floyd J. Angevine retained the South<br />

Norwalk business. He continued at the<br />

old location until the spring <strong>of</strong> 1921, when<br />

he moved to the new store building on<br />

North Main street, the present home <strong>of</strong><br />

his flourishing, successful enterprise. Mr.<br />

Angevine has developed the South Norwalk<br />

business along progressive, substan-<br />

tial lines, familiarizing himself with the<br />

needs and tastes <strong>of</strong> the local market in<br />

furniture, and steadily adding to a gen-<br />

erous patronage through fair and straight-<br />

forward methods <strong>of</strong> dealing. He is a<br />

member <strong>of</strong> the South Norwalk and Norwalk<br />

Country clubs, and is a Mason in<br />

fraternal affiliation. Politically he is a<br />

Republican.<br />

Mr. Angevine married Ethel Perry,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> Charles and Nora Belle<br />

(Hartwell) Perry, and they are the par-<br />

ents <strong>of</strong> Floyd J., Jr., born August 5, 1910,<br />

and Ida Jean, born May 15, 1914.<br />

HANLON, Albert Frederick,<br />

Physician.<br />

One <strong>of</strong> the leading physicians <strong>of</strong> Fair-<br />

field county, and foremost among the<br />

citizens <strong>of</strong> Greenwich, <strong>Connecticut</strong>, is<br />

Albert Frederick Hanlon, who was born<br />

in Brooklyn, New York, January 2, 1883,<br />

son <strong>of</strong> Edward and Frances (Kail) Hanlon.<br />

His father, Edward Hanlon, was<br />

born in Manchester, England, and was<br />

one <strong>of</strong> the Hanlon Brothers <strong>of</strong> gymnastic<br />

fame. The others were George, Alfred,<br />

and Frederick Hanlon. They were the<br />

leaders in their day <strong>of</strong> all gymnastic performers,<br />

coming to America from Eng-<br />

land.<br />
