that province. David Schreiber died Jan-<br />

uary 29, 1826, at the venerable age <strong>of</strong><br />

ninety-one years, his wife having passed<br />

away in 1812.<br />

(IV) Isaac Shriver, son <strong>of</strong> David and<br />

Rebecca (Ferree) Schreiber, was born<br />

March 6, 1777, in Little Pipe Creek,<br />

Maryland, and settled in Westminster.<br />

He was an influential man and was several<br />

times elected to the Maryland House <strong>of</strong><br />

Delegates. He was largely instrumental<br />

in the formation <strong>of</strong> Carroll county. He<br />

was president <strong>of</strong> the Westminster Bank.<br />

Though reared in the Reformed church<br />

he became in after life a member <strong>of</strong> the<br />

Method :<br />

st Protestant church. He mar-<br />

ried Polly Leatherman. His death oc-<br />

curred December 22, 1856.<br />

(V) Francis Shriver, son <strong>of</strong> Isaac and<br />

Polly (Leatherman) Shriver, was born<br />

February 27, 181 1, near Fredericktown,<br />

Maryland, and engaged very successfully<br />

in the business <strong>of</strong> a currier. He was<br />

prominent in public life, serving six terms<br />

as mayor <strong>of</strong> Westminster and holding<br />

various other <strong>of</strong>fices. During the Civil<br />

War he enlisted in the Union army, par-<br />

ticipating in the fight with Stuart's cavalry<br />

which took place in Westminster.<br />

He was a member <strong>of</strong> the Methodist Pro-<br />

testant church. Mr. Shriver married<br />

Matilda Frysinger, July 14, 1830. He<br />

died January 27, 1884.<br />

(VI) Isaac (2) Shriver, son <strong>of</strong> Francis<br />

and Matilda (Frysinger) Shriver, was<br />

born January 25, 1840, in Westminster,<br />

Maryland. He married Mary E. Darrah,<br />

daughter <strong>of</strong> John and Sarah (Henderson)<br />

Darrah. Mr. Shriver died July 27, 1913.<br />

(VII) Frances May Shriver, daughter<br />

<strong>of</strong> Isaac (2) and Mary E. (Darrah)<br />

Shriver, was born October 19, 1877, and<br />

became the wife <strong>of</strong> Judge Vosburgh, as<br />

stated above.<br />

Business Man.<br />

The work <strong>of</strong> the world is done by men<br />

<strong>of</strong> great hearts and broad sympathies,<br />

men whose strength <strong>of</strong> character is great<br />

and who possess wonderful prowess <strong>of</strong><br />

endurance. In the infinitely varied lines<br />

<strong>of</strong> work which are created by the needs<br />

<strong>of</strong> the people, there are many occupations<br />

in which every beneficent power is re-<br />

quisitioned. Stephen S. Chadeayne, <strong>of</strong><br />

the well known firm <strong>of</strong> Brady & Chad-<br />

eayne, <strong>of</strong> Stamford, stands in such a posi-<br />

tion towards society. The solemn duties<br />

which are connected with the last sad<br />

rites <strong>of</strong> the dead need peculiar qualities<br />

<strong>of</strong> heart and mind in the men who perform<br />

them, and many bereaved homes in<br />

the city <strong>of</strong> Stamford have found the way<br />

<strong>of</strong> sorrow smoother for his ministrations.<br />

The Chadeayne family is <strong>of</strong> French<br />

origin, and has long been identified with<br />

the section north <strong>of</strong> New York City.<br />

(I) The first known <strong>of</strong> the family is<br />

John Chadeayne, who married Judith<br />

Tillyou, and they were the parents <strong>of</strong><br />

Daniel, <strong>of</strong> further mention.<br />

(II) Daniel Chadeayne, son <strong>of</strong> John<br />

and Judith (Tillyou) Chadeayne, was<br />

born in 1766, and died in 1846. He mar-<br />

ried Hannah Underhill. They were the<br />

parents <strong>of</strong> Jacob, <strong>of</strong> further mention.<br />

(III) Jacob Chadeayne, son <strong>of</strong> Daniel<br />

and Hannah (Underhill) Chadeayne, was<br />

born in 1799, and died in 1839. He mar-<br />

ried Anna Conklin, and they were the<br />

parents <strong>of</strong> two sons : David<br />

further mention.<br />

; and John, <strong>of</strong><br />

(IV) John (2) Chadeayne, second son<br />

<strong>of</strong> Jacob and Anna (Conklin) Chadeayne,<br />

was born in the town <strong>of</strong> Sing Sing, New<br />

York, and his boyhood was spent in New<br />

Castle, where he received his education.<br />
