Due to the cold and flu season upon us, we have been
challenged with staff calling in sick, resulting in making some
last minute adjustments to our swim lesson programs. We would
like to thank you for your patience and understanding during this
time. Please remember to keep yourself and any sick children
home.
Walking is one of the best, safest and most natural forms of
exercise. You can, in fact, walk your way to a healthier,
stronger cardiovascular system. Walking is an effective exercise
for people of all ages and all states and levels of health.
Now that the chilly weather is upon us, why not bring your usual
outdoor walks to the warmth of the Beach Pool? Walking in
hip-to-waist high in water is a very good low-stress, highintensity
exercise. Unlike walking on land, the water adds a
dimention of buoyancy which makes for less impact but also
adds resistance. For higher intensity, run in the water or
challenge yourself by walking against the lazy river! (and you
don’t even have to get your hair wet…)
The 2010-2011 Sea Sprites season is now
well underway. At the time of writing, we are
preparing for an upcoming Figures Meet we are
hosting at the Club on November 7 th . This is a
skills competition where the girls compete in the
performance of specific patterns and movements
which are key elements in the sport.
We are excited to report that two of our athletes and our Head
Coach were honoured recently with awards for their performance
last season.
Breanne Bauer - Winner of Provincial 12 and under 2010
award.
Maxime McLean - Winner of Provincial 14 and under 2010
award.
Jewely Walton - Winner of Provincial Coach 2010 award.
Congratulations to all.
We recently completed our first out-of-town training camp for
our senior team. It was held in Henderson, a suburb of Los
Vegas in late October and it turned out exceptionally well. The
girls trained intensively in an outdoor pool, enjoying the warm
weather and sunshine of the desert. They were also treated to
a performance of Cirque de Soleil’s show called ‘O’, which is
a show that features synchronized swimming, in the style of
Cirque’ and had the opportunity to meet the coach and some of
the performers before the show.
Just a reminder that our annual Christmas Water Show is being
held on December 5 th at 6:00 pm in the main pool. Come and
enjoy watching our athletes perform their competitive routines.
Bring the family. All are welcome.
