<strong>Calgary</strong> <strong>Winter</strong> <strong>Club</strong> Junior Open<br />
The annual season opening junior tournament of the year was<br />
once again hosted by our <strong>Club</strong>. With a total of 10 divisions<br />
to play for and the <strong>Winter</strong> <strong>Club</strong> well represented in each as<br />
usual expectations were high. Our juniors did not disappoint.<br />
Champions in six divisions and second place in five was a<br />
great confidence boost to our juniors heading into an important<br />
season. Of particular note were our girl’s results, a total<br />
clean sweep of all categories shows huge potential for coming<br />
seasons. Congratulations to all participants in particular:<br />

World Health Edgemont Junior Open<br />
The second stop on the junior circuit was hosted by the<br />
Edgemont club in late October. Again a very strong<br />
contingent from our club entered the event. After a long<br />
weekend of hard fought matches we again celebrated<br />
multiple champions. Congratulations to all who entered.<br />

<strong>Calgary</strong> Open<br />
The first ‘major’ adult tournament of the season was held at<br />
our <strong>Club</strong>, October 21 - 24. A core event on the Squash<br />
Alberta calendar this tournament always attracts the top<br />
players. This year was to be no exception with 130 entries<br />
from far and wide including one entry from Bogota<br />
Columbia. With the support of our sponsor Rod McCasey of<br />
Paradise Canyon Vacations we were able to attract top<br />

players fighting for the $2000 on offer in the open divisions.<br />
In addition some of our up and coming juniors used the event<br />
to sharpen their skills against their adult counterparts in the<br />
various skills categories. Often with spectacular results!<br />

Adult <strong>Club</strong> Championships<br />
This year we will be making a slight change to the timing of<br />
our Adult <strong>Club</strong> Championships. We hope to have more people<br />
enter by playing the championships slightly earlier in the year,<br />
therefore this year’s tournament will see the finals played on<br />
Saturday, February 19 st . Play will commence February 17 th or<br />
18 th depending entries. There will be a courtside social during<br />
finals afternoon Saturday.<br />
Girls Fun Day<br />
Following the success of our previous events, we will be<br />
holding our next Girl’s Only Squash Day on Saturday,<br />
February 5 th from 1:00 pm to 3:30 pm. As usual, this fun<br />
event is open to all girl members of the <strong>Club</strong> from<br />
experienced players to those wanting to try squash for the<br />
very first time. The day will be run by an all female coaching<br />
team led by assistant professional Susie King.<br />
Christmas Junior Fun Day<br />
<strong>December</strong> 11 th will be our annual Christmas Junior Squash<br />
day. We will be running a fun tournament for all of our<br />
juniors aged 8 and over. From our top athletes to those just<br />
starting out everyone is invited. A cunning handicapping<br />
system will be in place to ensure everyone has an equal<br />
chance of success. Once the squash is done there will be pizza<br />
and prizes for everyone. Register through Game Time.<br />
