Thirty-one District Rose Societies in New Zealand are affiliated with the New
Zealand Rose Society Inc. So, in effect, the National body is a “Head Office”. The National
body provides each member in New Zealand with:
• Cultural Handbook
• New Zealand RoseReview
• New Zealand Rose Annual
A Spring Convention and a smaller Autumn Convention are held in different parts of
New Zealand each year. Overseas tours are occasionally organised by the National body.
District Societies also provide members with monthly meetings, a local newsletter,
garden visits and occasional field days and/or seminars. Some District Societies also arrange
discounts at various garden related shops and some purchase fertilizer and sell it to members
at wholesale prices.
“Rose Ranfurly Shields” are competed for by a group of District Societies (from six
to ten.) Roses are pooled and entered in the name of a Society rather than by an individual.
Fees: The cost of membership is set by each District Society and varies from NZ$25 to
NZ$35 per couple per year. Individual membership is usually NZ$2 less.
Overseas members may join The National Rose Society of New Zealand Inc. for
NZ$40.
