<strong>Rose</strong>raie du Parc de la Grange was built in 1944 and has been the site <strong>of</strong> an<br />

International <strong>Rose</strong> Trials since 1947. This beautiful garden overlooking<br />

Lake Geneva contains 360 cultivars <strong>of</strong> roses and 12,000 plants. Each year<br />

100 to 120 new roses are planted in the trial garden.<br />

In 1901 Portland, Oregon adopted the designation "the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rose</strong>s" and<br />

the first <strong>Rose</strong> Festival was held in 1907. Washington Park International Test<br />

Garden has over 7500 plants comprised <strong>of</strong> 550 varieties <strong>of</strong> roses. The<br />

garden serves as a backdrop for many community events, <strong>Rose</strong> Festival<br />

programs, Portland's Best <strong>Rose</strong> Trials, the Gold Award Trials, the All<br />

American <strong>Rose</strong> Selection Trials and the Award <strong>of</strong> Excellence Miniature<br />

<strong>Rose</strong> Trials.<br />

The Pageant <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rose</strong>s Garden was established over 50 years ago, and today<br />

boasts approximately 10,000 plants and 300 cultivars in a creative landscape<br />

<strong>of</strong> over 70 beds. Incorporated into the overall garden design are test garden<br />

areas displaying future varieties currently under test by the All-America<br />

<strong>Rose</strong> Selections (AARS) and the American <strong>Rose</strong> Society Award <strong>of</strong><br />

Excellence Miniature program (AOE). Previous winners <strong>of</strong> these prestigious<br />

awards are displayed throughout the garden.<br />

In 2000 the garden initiated the first ever International <strong>Rose</strong> Trials in the<br />

USA and has quickly gained international recognition for the quality and<br />

maintenance <strong>of</strong> the entries among breeders and introducers alike.<br />

The castle Bagatelle, built by the Comte d'Artois in 1777, and the<br />

surrounding lands were acquired by the City <strong>of</strong> Paris in 1905. The<br />

Commissioner <strong>of</strong> Gardens for Paris at the time, Jean-Claude Nicholas<br />

Forestier, built the <strong>Rose</strong>raie. It is laid out in strict French style, and today<br />

boasts more than 9000 roses and over 1000 varieties. It also contains a<br />

wonderful collection <strong>of</strong> antique and species roses.<br />

In 1907 M. Forestier organized the first international competition for new<br />
