This book attempts to write the history of the black rose from three separate
angles. The first is the history of dark roses from their very first traces in
herbals and Middle Ages images right up to the dark Hybrid Teas of the 1950s.
The second is an explanation of the genetics of color pigments of roses and why
'black' flowers are so difficult to create. The third section highlights present day
dark roses and the hybridizers behind them. Garden roses and cut roses are both
discussed.
