INTRODUCTION
One of the most important functions of the World Federation of Rose Societies, as
stated in our Constitution, is "To encourage and facilitate the interchange of information
about and knowledge of the rose between national rose societies". The World Federation of
Rose Societies Rose Directory attempts to do that.
Our aim is to gather together the most important rose information from each of the
thirty-nine member countries that make up the WFRS. This is information that is commonly
known by members of each national rose society about roses in their own country, but it is
information that is hard to come by for other rose lovers. We hope that this book will make it
easier to find roses and rose people around the world.
The data in this book has been provided by the member societies of the WFRS and
may be copied and distributed by them in any manner they see fit. Our only aim is to further
the cause of the rose throughout the world.
This project was first purposed at the World Rose Convention in Christchurch, New
Zealand in November, 1994. Milly Weyermann of Switzerland, Bunny Skran of the U.S.A.
and I worked together to decide on the information to be gathered and how it would be
presented. John Mattia of the U.S.A. designed the output layouts and did the desktop
publishing. The enthusiasm and hard work of this small group will earn them a debt of
gratitude from rosarians around the world.
The accuracy of the information that follows is dependent on the data provided by the
member societies of the WFRS. We trust that the member societies will help us to correct
any inaccuracies.
We hope this book widens your horizons in the rose world, and we welcome any
comments and suggestions you may have for future issues.
