2012 Zijing Park..................................................Changzhou, China<br />

More than one million people have visited Zijing Park, which contains 1200<br />

varieties <strong>of</strong> roses and 25,000 plants.<br />

Visitors not only enjoy the beauty <strong>of</strong> the flowers but also learn about the<br />

rose and its culture through a rose festival every May, rose exhibitions, rose<br />

arrangement exhibitions, the selection <strong>of</strong> the top ten citizens' rose favorites,<br />

the rose wedding, public participation in rose planting, a rose photography<br />

competition, and special rose-theme theatrical performances.<br />

The Gardens <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Rose</strong>, opened in 1963, is the garden <strong>of</strong> the Royal National<br />

<strong>Rose</strong> Society. The original garden included beds <strong>of</strong> modern roses, species<br />

roses, roses <strong>of</strong> historical significance, modern climbers , old climbers and<br />

ramblers and the international trials <strong>of</strong> new roses.<br />

Due to difficult circumstances the garden became neglected. It was closed to<br />

the public in 2005, completely redesigned and refurbished and reopened in<br />

2007. The new design, covering 5 acres, is more in keeping with modern ideas<br />

particularly when it comes to companion planting.<br />

2012 Trevor Griffiths <strong>Rose</strong> Garden .................................Timaru, New Zealand<br />

Established in 2001, this garden is a collection <strong>of</strong> roses collected by world<br />

renown rosarian Trevor Griffiths. It contains over 1100 rose varieties -<br />

mostly heritage and Austin varieties.<br />

2012 Gulab Bagh................................................................Islamabad, Pakistan<br />

This is the garden <strong>of</strong> the Pakistan National <strong>Rose</strong> Society. It was established<br />

in 1992 and is open to the public throughout the year. It contains<br />

approximately 200 varieties <strong>of</strong> roses and 15,000 plants.<br />

This garden, designed in 1916 and completed in 1988, was extensively<br />

renovated in 2006. It has more than 4000 plants and over 680 varieties <strong>of</strong><br />

roses.<br />

The garden is being transformed with a mission <strong>of</strong> increased disease<br />
