Cleaning the LDA Components after Disassembling the LDA
Cleaning the LDA Components after Disassembling the LDA
Cleaning the Check Valves
Cleaning the Pistons
The check valves, pistons, displacements chambers, and inlet module are the most likely
components to have problems with contamination. You cannot clean the primary piston seals.
If the primary piston seals contain particulate matter, replace them.
If flushing the LDA (see “Cleaning the LDA Components without Disassembling the LDA”
on page 56) does not remove the contamination, disassemble the LDA, and then follow these
cleaning procedures:
• Cleaning the Check Valves
• Cleaning the Pistons
• Cleaning the Displacement Chambers and the Inlet Module
For instructions on disassembling the LDA, see “Disassembling the LDA” on page 64.
To clean the check valves, Thermo Fisher Scientific recommends using a 10 mL syringe with a
very short piece of silicon tubing at the Luer exit.
 To clean the check valves
Using a 10 mL syringe with a very short piece of silicon tubing at the Luer exit, gently
flush the check valves with these solvents: 5 mL acetone, followed by 5 mL of distilled
water with a few drops of detergent, and then 5 mL methanol.
If you cannot achieve free flow through the check valve, replace it.
CAUTION Do not use an ultrasonic bath to clean the check valves. Sonicating the
check valves can damage their small ruby balls.
If precipitate is visible on the pistons, clean them with a soft tissue and cleaning paste. Then
rinse the pistons with methanol.
