Its a Multipolar (Oligopolar) World
The SCLG Danube Region held its
first meeting in Budapest, Hungary
on November 29th, 2010 under the
theme of ‘The Danube Region and the GCC
in a new Multipolar (Oligopolar) World’.
Dr. Ernst Schmied took the initiative in
his role as a member of the SCLG Regional
Development Team to interlink the GCC and
the Danube Regions in the context of the
momentum of a new Multipolar (Oligopolar)
World.
The meeting took place in Budapest,
Hungary under the leadership of Dr.
Schmied as Program Chair and Ferenc
Kovacs as the Hungarian Host and
Co-Chair.
30 participants of 8 European and
4 non European Countries and Global
Players in the Supply Chain from Shippers,
Forwarders, Shipping Lines and Airlines,
Airports and Container Terminal Operators,
Railway & Intermodal Operators, Banks and
Insurance Groups discussed and evaluated
the need and value for closer cooperation
between the Danube Region and the GCC.
Starting with high level keynotes, followed
by briefings from leading global industries
such as Automotive, Retail, Electronics and
Contract Manufacturing. Four parallel groups
for Trade, Containerisation, Air cargo and
Project Finance identified possible business
cases and partnering models. The outcome
was presented by the relevant Moderators
and reviewed and discussed in a panel
session.
Special attention was also given to the
4th SCLG Strategy Summit to be held in
Dubai on May 18th, 2011 and a possible
later convention between the GCC and the
Danube Region mid of June 2011, which
the participants would like to support and
facilitate.
This first meeting and workshop was a
success. The participants have expressed
the need for further meetings and dialog.
Beside the achievement of a general
Event
SCLG
understanding, a partnering model was
identified together with a number of possible
business cases, pre-projects and projects.
The participants have enjoyed an open
and freely speaking forum addressing the
drivers, facilitators and the components for
a promising partnership. The idea of a larger
convention in June 2011 aligned with the
presidency of Hungary of the EU for the first
half of 2011 got consensus.
