Špičák, Prague (Czech Republic) The Falk Symposia “Endoscopy 2006” and “Immunoregulation in Inflammatory Bowel Diseases” occupy a prominent place among the topics discussed at the Intestinal Disease Meeting held in Berlin, May 4–7, 2006. In all, more than 1,400 participants from 48 nations traveled to the German capital in order to update their knowledge and exchange experiences with professional colleagues. “Endoscopy is of central importance in gastroenterology. As a method, it is dependent on new developments in gastroenterology, basic research and technology.” This was the message of the scientific organizers of the Falk Symposium 152, P. Fockens A. Dignass, Frankfurt (Germany) E.F. Stange, Stuttgart (Germany) D. Rachmilewitz, Jerusalem (Israel) J.V. Weinstock, Boston (USA) (Amsterdam), T. Rösch (Berlin), H.-J. Schulz (Berlin) and J. Špičák (Prague). Live demonstrations were included among the attractions of this symposium. The objective of Falk Symposium 153 was to present current standards and potential new options in the diagnosis and therapy of inflammatory bowel diseases. It was organized by A. Dignass (Frankfurt), D. Rachmilewitz (Jerusalem), E.F. Stange (Stuttgart) und J.V. Weinstock (Boston). Among other controversial topics, participants discussed whether the treatment of inflammatory bowel diseases should follow a “Top Down” or “Step Up” approach.
