yatra to make BJP MPs and MLAs and government offi cials proud of him. His largesse with land is<br />

enough. On Monday, Modi's gov ernment gave away residen tial plots at concession to 13 MPs, 54 MLAs<br />

and over 1,600 government employ ees, including officers, in Gandhinagar. And not all the elected<br />

representatives who benefited were from the rul ing party. The Congress too gained — three MPs and<br />

some MLAs got land. The BJP beneficiaries in clude party spokesman and the Chief Minister's friend Arun<br />

Jaitley, Jayanti Barot, Haribhai Chaudnary, Babubhai Katara, Lalit Patel, Dipak Patel, Savita Sharda,<br />

Bhupendra Solanki, Jayaben Thakkar and Bhavna Dave (ex-MP). The allotees from the Congress are<br />

Pravin Rashtrapal, Madhusudan Mistry and Savsi Makwana. The plots were allotted through a draw of lots<br />

car ried out in the presence of Narottam Patel, Minister for Capital Project, at the Gand hinagar District<br />

NRI team on Gujarat mission was threatened (7)<br />

New Delhi, Sept. 14: Thirteen NRIs from California, Michigan, New Jersey, Virginia, Washington DC, New<br />

York and Maryland, who were on a five-day sadbhavana mission to Gujarat were threatened and nearly<br />

assaulted by local villagers of Denrol near Godhra while the delegation were urging people to let uprooted<br />

Muslim families of the village return to their homes. Delegation members told The Asian Age: "Our leader<br />

Shrikumar Poddar was talking to the villagers in Dehrol where over 74 Muslim families were driven out.<br />

We were telling the villagers to create a situation whereby these families could return. But suddenly, we<br />

were gheraod and the people got aggressive. They told Mr Poddar 'If you come back, your dead body will<br />

leave the village,' when he suggest ed the Muslim families should be allowed to return to the village."<br />

Tapes capture rabid speeches made by Modi (7)<br />

Ahmedabad:The Gujarat government went into dam age-control mode even as Narendra Modi's<br />

statements against Muslims — first reported by The Times of India — came into sharp focus with a<br />

television channel playing the relevant audio tapes throughout Sunday. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)<br />

representatives al leged that the tapes were doctored. "This is a conspiracy by anti-Gujarat forces and the<br />

Congress," was the general refrain of the BJP men. A state minister remarked, "There has been a trend in<br />

Gujarat of delivering such speeches for the past 40 years." Modi, who was in Amreli on Sunday for the<br />

second leg of his yatra, neither ac knowledged nor denied mak ing anti-minority statements at Bechraji.<br />

State BJP president Rajen-drasinh Rana explained that Modi was talking in the larg er context of the<br />

economic development of the state and the effect that a large popula tion has on it. (Times of India<br />

TV tapes prove Modi attacked Muslims (7)<br />

New Delhi, Sept. 15: Brushing aside the evidence produced by a television channel on<br />

Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's derogatory remarks on Muslims, and ignoring<br />

Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's censure of the state administration following the<br />

Gujarat carnage, deputy prime minister L.K. Advani on Sunday stood firmly behind Mr<br />

Modi and said his "Gaurav Yatra" was an example to be followed by the BJP. The VHP,<br />

meanwhile, has decid ed to bring out another "yatra" in support of Mr Modi in Gujarat.<br />

political rhgetoric on Sunday while warning Miya Musharfaf that if he does not stoppointing his dirty finger<br />

towards Gujarat, five crore people of Gujarat will not hesitate to chop off his hand and teach him a lesson.
