Pak must mind own business (7)
New Delhi: THE NATIONAL Commission for Minorities has severely criticised Pakistani President General
Pervez Musharraf's statement on Monday which accused India of ill-treating the minorities. The statement
is intended to provoke the majority and is not in the interest of minorities, Vice-Chairman Trilochan Singh
told The Pioneer. General Musharraf in.his television address urged the world to take notice of "Hindu
extremists' aggression in Kashmir, Gujarat and elsewhere in India against Muslim, Christians, Sikhs and
their scheduled castes and tribes."
"Gen Musharraf went all out to provoke the Hindus," Mr Singh said. Asking Pakistan to mind its own
business, Mr Singh said, in India there is a machinery for redressing the grievances of minorities — the
commission and Courts. "In Pakistan, there are no minorities left (over the years). Mr. Singh said. (Pioneer
Senior bureaucrats want out of Gujarat, many go on leave (7)
Gandhinagar: Senior bureaucrats of Gujarat seem fed-up with the political leadership. Most of them are
going on long leave. Others have asked for posting outside the state. The change has come after a
meeting of the IAS Association — scheduled to be held last month — was scuttled.
Attempts by chief minister Narendra Modi to involve officers in riot relief and related activities i have not
been too successful. In the first week of April, a cell was formed j with six officers under the chairmanship
of K C Kapoor, to collect information on violence, study the pattern of the riots and suggest remedial
measures. The cell never met, and Kapoor himself went on a long leave. "We were not clear about what
was to be done. There was no clear brief and besides we thought this was a police job, said a member.
