HYDERABAD, April 28. — Mr. N Chandrababu Naidu will play his cards at the eleventh hour. The Andhra<br />

Pra-desh chief minister has decided to wait till the Prime Minister replies in the Lok Sabha before deciding<br />

on how the TDP would vote on Tuesday's censure motion over Gujarat. "Let us see how Mr Vajpayee<br />

reacts as head of the NDA during the discussion," Mr Naidu reportedly said at a Telugu Desam<br />

Parliamentary Party meet here. "What's- the need for us to decide now? There would be several<br />

JAIPUR, APRIL 28: WORRIED about the safety of their women, 43 members of a Sheikh Muslim family<br />

from Halol near Godhra caught the Jaipur-Bandra train within two hours and escaped. To a life full of<br />

uncertamity. Huddled together at Jaipur's Muslim musafirkhana, they are now caught between hope and<br />

despair. Sanwra Bano, SO, her bloodshot eyes mirroring her tension, says she left behind six members of<br />

her family. The eldest of them, 48-year-old Iqbal Sheikh, stayed back to look after their property and give<br />

courage to the few in the Bassa Baba ka Mohalla who stayed on. "They are living in constant fear but<br />

Five killed in Gujarat violence (7)<br />

AHMEDABAD, APRIL 28: FRESH bout of communal violence today killed five persons, four of them in<br />

police firing, here despite a peace march led by Defence Minister George Fernandes and Gujarat Chief<br />

Minister Narendra Modi with an appeal to isolate perpetrators of the carnage. Four persons were killed<br />

when police opened fire in Man-inagar and Kalupur localities and one person was stabbed to death in<br />

labour-dominated Gomtipur area, police said. In all, 18 people were injured with ten of them receiving<br />

bullet injuries and three crude bomb injuries. Police resorted to firing in Chandola Lake areas of<br />

Mani-nagar and Kalupur to disperse mobs hurling stones and indulging in arson. (<strong>Indian</strong> Exp 29.4.02)<br />

Paswan quits over Gujarat (7)<br />

New Delhi, April 29: THE NDA was dealt a double blow on the eve of the crucial vote in Parliament on the<br />

Gujarat issue. President K.R. Narayanan issued a strong message to the nation on Monday appealing for<br />

communal harmony in the state; and Lok Jan Shakti Party president Ram Vilas Paswan quit from his post<br />

of Coal and Mines Minister in the NDA government. The President said, "I appeal to all my fellow citizens<br />

to restore communal harmony and do everything to end the communal violence that has devastated the<br />

state and continues to occur even after two months...." The message is particularly embarrassing for the<br />

government, coming as it does on the eve of the Opposition-sponsored Lok Sabha debate and vote on the<br />

continuing violence in Gujarat. (Hindustan Times 30.4.02)<br />

Two killed in Ahmedabad blast (7)<br />

AHMEDABAD AND BARODA: April 29: Two persons were killed in communally sensitive Kalupur area in<br />

Ahmedabad early on Monday morning when a bomb they were carrying exploded on the terrace of their<br />

house. The police fired 89 rounds and lobbed 73 teargas shells to quell rioting mobs in Dhanasuthar ni<br />

Pol, Khiskola Pol, Kalupur Tower and Panchpat-ti localities of Kalupur area injuring 30 persons. Thirteen<br />

are reported to be in a serious condition at V.S. Hospital. Sporadic incidents of arson were also reported<br />

from Asarwa area of the city where miscreants torched hutments. Indefinite curfew has been clamped in<br />

Gomtipur and Kalupur areas following the violence. Indefinite curfew was clamped in Kapadwanj, about 60<br />

km from Ahmedabad, after mobs took to streets following a stabbing incident. The injured person has<br />

been admitted to a hospital. (Asian Age 30.4.02)
