Godhra flares up as Army moves to border (7)<br />

Godhra (Gujarat), Mav 25: Fresh violence erupted in Godhra and Ahmedabad barely 48 hours, after the<br />

Army withdrew from Gujarat. Two people were killed and nine injured in Godhra and a fresh curfew has<br />

been imposed. Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi's special security adviser, Mr K.P.S. Gill, is camping<br />

in Godhra. In Ahmedabad, one person was arrested for 'detonating a crude bomb. Violence rocked<br />

Godhra late on Friday night. Indefinite curfew has been clamped in areas under seven police stations. The<br />

situation remained' tense throughout Saturday. More than 60 persons were arrested. Mr Gill, along with<br />

special inspector general of police Deepak Swaroop, held meetings with top police and district officials.<br />

Minor incidents of violence also spread tension in Gomtipur and Rakhial areas of the old city in<br />

Ahmedabad, May 26: The Gujarat police has reportedly been ordered to identify elements<br />

responsible for new spurt in violence in which three people were killed and 11 injured over the last two<br />

days. Late on Saturday night, a Muslim-owned house was been torched in Godhra and Hindu man was<br />

stabbed to death in Ahmedabad. The Gujarat government wants to pass on the blame for the recent<br />

communal frenzy on anti-socials who have camped in Gujarat, claim top sources, but senior police<br />

officers stress that Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi is sitting on a communal tinderbox and unless<br />

attempts are made at grassroots levels, the state would witness communal clashes again. (Asian Age<br />

Muslims refuse to meet Sangh leaders (7)<br />

Gandhinagar, May 27: 'THE NATIONAL Commission for Minorities (NCM) efforts to broker a peace deal<br />

between Hindus and Muslims in Gujarat have run into rough weather with the minorities' delegation<br />

refusing to hold talks with VHP and Bajrang Dal representatives. A meeting between representatives of<br />

the two communities was scheduled here for Monday An NCM delegation, led by deputy chairman<br />

Tarlochan Singh, was also scheduled to attend the meeting, but following objections by Muslim leaders<br />

the NCM's visit to Gujarat was called off. (Hindustan Times 28.5.02)<br />

Gill banks on people power in Godhra (7)<br />

Ahmedabad, May 26: Authorities in Godhra, where the carnage ghost came back to claim two more lives<br />

on Friday night, have decided to set up committees in sensitive localities to ensure that the violence did<br />

not recur. The town has been peaceful with no fresh incident of violence reported since that night.<br />

Indefinite curfew continued to be in force across Godhra for the second day today. But a man was stabbed<br />

to death in Ahmedabad yesterday, taking the toll in the renewed violence in the strife-torn state to three.<br />

Unidentified assailants killed Lalit Kumar Mistry, 39, on Kalupur bridge in the curfew-bound area of the city<br />

and escaped under the cover of darkness. Two persons were killed in police firing and nine injured after<br />

clashes erupted between two communities on Friday, forcing chief minister Narendra Modi's security<br />

adviser K.P.S. Gill to rush for an "on the spot assessment of the situation".It was Gill who suggested to the<br />

local authorities to set up mohalla committees and involve members from both communities in areas with<br />

Ahmedabad, May 27: Three months after gruesome incidents of violence in Naroda Patiya, Naroda<br />

village, Gulbarg society and Sardarpur village in Mehsana, investigating teams of the Gujarat police are<br />

yet to establish anything concrete in these cases. Operation Crackdown which was launched by the<br />

Ahmedabad crime branch to arrest the accused in the infamous Gulbarg Society case in which former
