Guwahati, Nov. 5: The minori ty cell of the Assam Congress today urged the Centre to "re strain" the
Governor, Lt. Gen. (retd) S.K. Sinha, from making "derogatory remarks" about the minority community.
Most members actually wanted the Governor removed for allegedly exceeding his brief, but the minority
favour such a big step. However, the comments heard at the meeting left nobody in doubt that Gen.
Sinha's recent statements on infiltration and the Illegal Migrants (Determina tion by Tribunals) Act had offended
the minority community. "How did the Governor find out that there are 40 lakh illegal mi grants in
Assam?" A.F. Golam Osmani asked. (Telegraph 6.11.02)
