Gujarat Govt. ready to make Modi tape public (7)
AHMEDABAD, SEPT. 18. After con sistently maintaining that there was no audio tape of the Gujarat Chief
Minister, Narendra Mo di's controversial anti-minority remarks, the State Government said today that it was
willing to make it public. "We can make it (the tape) public, we have no intention to hide anything. If
anyone asks for the tape we can give it," the Government spokesman, Purshottam Rupala, told
pressper-sons. The apparent change of tact came close on the heels of the transfer of three top State
speeches and airing of the tape by a TV channel on Sunday. (Gubdy 19.9.02)
Modi shifts 3 IPS officers for speaking the truth (7)
Gandhinagar/New Delhi, September 18: LATE ON Tuesday night, the Gujarat government passed orders
to transfer three senior officers of the state intelli gence bureau. Additional DG Intelli gence R.B.
Shreekumar, DIG P. Radhakrishnan and SP Sanjeev Bhatt were the victims. Officially, the transfers are
routine, but the unofficial — and immediate — cause was a letter the intelligence bureau wrote to the
Additional Chief Secretary Ashok Narain last week, contradicting a statement Chief Minis ter Narendra
Modi made to the Nation al Commission on Minorities. The commission had asked Modi for a recording of
a speech he had made at Besraji on September 9, day two of the Gaurav Yatra, where, according to media
reports he had made anti-Muslim remarks. Modi said he did not have the recording. But the bureau's
letter said they did have tapes of the speech, which had, indeed, been anti-Muslim. (Hindustan Times
