From its beginnings the history of political ideas in Latin America has been influenced by European<br />

thought and, from the nineteenth century onwards, by US discourses. The lecture provides an<br />

introduction to the main strands of political thought in Latin America from the colonial age until today.<br />

Throughout the period under scrutiny, political ideas have always reflected the search for a specific Latin<br />

American identity.<br />
