Genitals
Your baby’s genitals may also appear swollen because of mom’s hormones. The swelling
will disappear in the first two (2) weeks. Baby girls may also have vernix, mucus, or a
small amount of bloody discharge from the vagina. There is no need for extra care, just
wash from front to back with clear water at each diaper change.
Fontanelas - (espacios blandos)
Su bebé tiene dos (2) fontanelas en su cabeza, una arriba y una pequeña en la parte de
atrás. El propósito de la fontanela es permitir que crezca la cabeza de su bebé. El
cerebro de su bebé va a crecer rápidamente en los primeros dos (2) años de vida. La

Fontanels — (soft spots)
Your baby has two (2) fontanels on his head, one on top and a small one on the back. The
purpose of the fontanel is to allow the baby’s head to grow. Your baby’s brain will grow
quickly in the first two (2) years of life. The fontanel at the back will close at around two
to three (2-3) months of life and the fontanel on the top of the baby’s head will close
around 12-18 months of age. There is no need for special care of the fontanels.
