Circumcision Pain Considerations Circumcision is painful when done without pain medicine. There are pain medicines available that are safe and effective. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that they be used to reduce pain from circumcision. Local anesthetics can be injected into the penis to lower pain and stress in infants. There are also topical creams that can help. Talk to your health care provider about which pain medicine is best for your son. Problems with using pain medicine are rare and usually not serious. Additionally, nonmedication pain relief measures will be used to help manage your baby’s pain. Following the circumcision, your baby will receive Tylenol. Existen dos (2) tipos de circuncisión. There are two (2) types of circumcision. 1. La Circuncisión de Campana Implica dejar un anillo de plástico en la cabeza del pene. Este anillo se caerá en cinco a diez (5-10) días. There is no special care needed for your baby. Wash the penis with diaper changes. Do not pull back the foreskin. It is not retractable until your son is about four (4) years old. CUIDADO DEL CORDÓN UMBILICAL — CORD CARE El cordón umbilical de su bebé se empieza a secar tan pronto como nace. El cordón umbilical se debe de caer en aproximadamente dos a tres (2-3) semanas. Manténgalo limpio, seco y expuesto al aire. Your baby’s umbilical cord starts to dry as soon as the baby is born. The umbilical cord should fall off in approximately two to three (2-3) weeks. Keep it clean, dry and exposed to air. • Lave sus manos antes de tocar el cordón. • Wash your hands before touching the cord. • Déle baños de esponja hasta que el cordón se haya caído. • Sponge bathe your baby until the cord has fallen off. • Doble el pañal para que quede abajo del cordón. Exponerlo al aire va a ayudar en el proceso de secado. • Fold the diaper below the cord.
