Piruvato<br />
Subproducto del metabolismo de la glucosa.<br />
Usos postulados: oxidación de grasa, disminución de peso, mejora del<br />
rendimiento actividad física 1,2,3 . Falta determinar mecanismo para disminución<br />
de peso 4 .<br />
Interacciones con medicamentos: no se registraron.<br />
Efectos adversos: digestivos 4 . Investigar si presenta efectos adversos mayores<br />
en uso prolongado.<br />
Ensayos clínicos: Dos clásicos ensayos doble ciego randomizados y controlados<br />
5,6 (Stanko et al, Kalman et al) incluyeron: una población con BMI 27.8-52.7<br />
suplementados con 30 g/día piruvato más 16 g/día calcio por 21 días (Stanko et<br />
al, 1994); una población con BMI ≥25, suplementados con 6 g/día de piruvato<br />
por 8 semanas (Kalman et al, 1999). En ninguno de los dos ensayos se muestra<br />
diferencia significativa mayor con piruvato que con placebo para descenso de<br />
peso. No hubo efectos adversos en ninguno de los dos casos 3 .<br />
Indicaciones basadas en la evidencia: no hay evidencia suficiente de la eficacia<br />
frente a placebo en la obesidad 2,3 , los ensayos registran un período menor a 12<br />
meses 3,5,6 .<br />
